Forcibly Starting a HyperMetro CG
After a failure of a system or a quorum server is fixed, you can forcibly start a HyperMetro CG to provide services.
Prerequisites
- All HyperMetro replication links are disconnected. The Running Status of the consistency group is Paused or To be synchronized. The local resource is not readable or writable.
- You have disconnected the physical links from the peer storage system (that is, the faulty storage system) to the service host and the quorum server before forcibly starting the HyperMetro consistency group to ensure data security. You can reconnect the peer storage system to the service host and quorum server after the HyperMetro consistency group is forcibly started.
- The host access status of the remote LUNs in all HyperMetro pairs that form the consistency group is Access denied.
To query the host access status of the remote LUN, run the show hyper_metro_pair general pair_id=XXXXX command on the remote storage system.

- If Local Access Status is No Access, the host access status of the remote LUN is Access denied. You can forcibly start the consistency group at the local site.
- If Local Access Status is Read and Write, the host can read and write the remote LUN. You are not advised to forcibly start the consistency group on your own. Contact Huawei technical support for assistance.
Precautions
- Before the forcible start, ensure that the storage system you want to forcibly start has the latest data. Otherwise, historical data will be used to provide services.
- If multiple faults occur in a HyperMetro pair and one storage system continues providing services, do not forcibly start the HyperMetro consistency group for the faulty storage system to provide services.
Context
- If the HyperMetro service works in static priority mode or the HyperMetro service encounters concurrent faults, the storage system at the non-preferred site cannot automatically take over the HyperMetro service if the storage system at the preferred site malfunctions. As a result, the HyperMetro service is paused. In this case, you must forcibly start the service at the non-preferred site to restore the HyperMetro service.
- If the HyperMetro service works in static priority mode or the HyperMetro service encounters concurrent faults, do not forcibly start the faulty storage system to carry host services as long as one storage system can carry services.
- For the situations where you can perform a forcible start, see Quorum Server Mode.
Procedure
- Disconnect the links from the faulty storage system to the service host and the quorum server. This is to prevent the faulty storage system from communicating with the host immediately after recovery. If you have disconnected the links, skip this step.
- Log in to DeviceManager.
- Choose Data Protection > Protection Entities > Protection Groups.
- Click the HyperMetro CGs tab. Select the HyperMetro CG that you want to forcibly start and click Force Start.
Confirm your operation as prompted.
Follow-up Procedure
After the faulty storage system recovers, perform the following operations:
- The Running Status of the HyperMetro consistency group is Force Start. Click Synchronize to synchronize data in the HyperMetro consistency group.
- After the synchronization is complete and the Running Status becomes Normal, restore the links from the storage system to the service host and the quorum server.
