Adding a Remote Device
This section describes how to establish a logical connection between a local storage system and a remote storage system for data transmission.
Prerequisites
- The local and remote devices have been properly connected.
- If a firewall is deployed, port 12001 must be enabled for IP links.
Context
The local and remote storage systems can be connected by either Fibre Channel or IP links.
- Before you add a remote device on a Fibre Channel network, clear the zone configurations for the ports that the switches use to connect to the storage systems. It is recommended that you allocate no more than two ports in any zone to prevent the number of remote links from exceeding the system's specifications.
- A maximum of eight ports on a controller can be used for replication.
Procedure
- Choose Data Protection > Configuration > Remote Devices.
- Click
.
The Add Remote Device page is displayed on the right.
- Set Link Type of the remote device. The value can be FC Link or IP Link.
- FC Link
- Select a remote device from the Remote Device drop-down list.
- Select a Fibre Channel link from the FC Link drop-down list.
- Set the user name and password for the Fibre Channel link. Table 10-3 describes the parameters.

Parameter
Description
Username
Account used for authentication of communication with the remote device. To add an authentication account, log in to the remote device and choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles. Then create an account of which Role is Remote device administrator. For details, see Adding an Authentication User.
Password
Password of the authentication account.
- Click Connect.
After the remote device is successfully connected, the storage system automatically identifies all Fibre Channel links. For reliability purposes, ensure that each controller of the storage systems at both ends has two links. If there is only one link, click
in the upper right corner of the remote device and choose Add Link.
- IP Link
- Select a local port form the Local Port drop-down list.
- Set an IP address for the front-end port of the remote device.
- Set the user name and password for the IP link. Table 10-4 describes the parameters.
