Installing the Front-Drive Backplane
If the part number (P/N) of the new drive backplane configured on the server is 03029JRY or 03029JSA, ensure that the mainboard iBMC version is V520 or later. Otherwise, upgrade the iBMC.
Procedure
- Power off the server.

- Remove the cables from the PSUs.
For details, see Removing PSU Cables.
- Remove the server.
For details, see Removing the Server.
- Place the server on the ESD workstation.
- Remove front drives.
For details, see Removing a SAS/SATA Drive or Removing an NVMe SSD.
- Remove the chassis cover.
For details, see Removing the Chassis Cover.
- Remove the air duct or built-in drive module.
For details, see Removing the Air Duct or Removing the Built-in Drive Module.
- Remove all fan modules.
For details, see Removing a Fan Module.
- Remove the fan module brackets.
- Press the latches on both sides of the fan module bracket and lift the fan module bracket vertically. See (1) and (2) in Figure 8-121.
- Use the same method to lift the other fan module bracket.
- Install the front-drive backplane.
- Take the spare part out of its ESD bag.
- Determine the position of the front-drive backplane.
- Hitch the front-drive backplane and move it downward until it is locked automatically.
