Operating System Requirements (Physical Machine)

Physical machine

The physical machine has been installed.

Disk partition

Disk partitions have been created. For details, see "Installation Parameter Planning > Remote High Availability System (SUSE Linux + GaussDB + OMMHA + Physical Machine)" in the eSight Planning Guide.

Time zone and time

The time and time zone of the active and standby servers must be the same.

1. Log in to the eSight server as the root user.
2. Right-click the system desktop. In the dialog box that is displayed, click Open Terminal. In the command terminal window, run yast2 to switch to the YaST2 Control Center window.
3. Choose System > Date and Time.

   Check whether the time and time zone on the active server are the same as those on the standby server.

Firewall

The firewall must be disabled. For details, see How Do I Disable the Firewall on the SUSE Linux.

Kdump settings

Set the Kdump dump directory to "/opt/crash". For details, see How Do I Set the Kdump on SUSE Linux.

Number of handles

If the user provides the operating system, ensure that the number of handles of the operating system is greater than or equal to 65535.

If the user provides the operating system, perform the following steps to check and change the number of operating system handles:

1. Log in to the eSight server as the root user.
2. Run the following command to view the number of operating system handles:

   # ulimit -n

3. Open the limits.conf file in /etc/security/ and set the nofile parameter in the file to 65535.

   If the limits.conf file does not contain the nofile parameter, run the following command to change the number of operating system handles:

   # echo "* - nofile 65535">> /etc/security/limits.conf

4. Restart the eSight server.

Command output after user login

A message is displayed, indicating that the operating system is provided by the user after user login. Ensure that no redundant information is displayed after login.

Perform the following steps to check the command output after user login:

1. Log in to the eSight server as the root user.
2. Run the following command to check whether redundant command output is displayed:

   # su - root -c ""

   If any command output is displayed, the requirement is not met. Check the environment variable file (for example, /etc/profile) loaded after user login and delete unnecessary command output.
