Applying for and Loading an eSight License

Prerequisites

You must have the Guest permission of the ESDP platform to apply for a commercial license. You can obtain the Guest permission of the ESDP platform after applying for an account at Huawei's official website.

Context

A license file is an authorization file generated by a dedicated encryption tool based on the contract signed between the customer and Huawei and the information about the server where eSight is installed. After obtaining the license file, import it to eSight to activate the permission to use eSight.

• The license file is not delivered to customers along with the eSight installation CD-ROM. Apply for the eSight license based on the project contract number and Equipment Serial Number (ESN) of the server.
• A license needs to be bound to an ESN of the server. If the ESN changes due to network adapter or server replacement, update the eSight license and import it again. For details, see the eSight License User Guide.

Procedure

1. Obtain a license activation password.
   The password can be found in the license certificate.

   The paper license certificate is delivered with the product, while the electronic copy is directly sent to the mailbox specified by the distributor that has signed the contract with Huawei. If you do not have the paper or electronic certificate, contact Huawei's channel partner and provide your contract number to obtain the activation password.

2. Obtain the server ESN.
   1. Log in to eSight as a user with administrator rights.
   2. Choose System > System Management > License Management from the main menu. The license management page is displayed.
   3. Click Obtain ESN.

   4. (Optional) If VMs are used:
      Click the Virtual Machine tab. The system displays the ESN of the VM. Separate two ESNs with a comma (,) when applying for a license for the high-availability system.

      In eSight V300R010C00SPC632 and earlier versions, Local ESN and Backup ESN are displayed. The function is not changed.

   5. (Optional) If physical machines are used:
      Select or enter the MAC address of the network adapter that provides network management services externally to generate the ESN.

      For an HA system, you need to obtain the ESNs of the MAC addresses of the network adapters on the local and remote servers. Separate ESNs of the two machines with a comma (,) when applying for a license for the HA system.

      • Method 1: Select the server network adapter. The ESN information is displayed.

        eSight automatically obtains the information about the network adapter that belongs to the server where eSight is installed. Record the ESN information.

        You can use this method only to obtain the ESN of the server you have logged in to. To obtain the ESNs of other servers, enter their MAC addresses.

      • Method 2: Enter the MAC address of the server and click Generate ESN.

3. Apply for an eSight license.
   1. Log in to the ESDP (https://app.huawei.com/isdp/) and choose License Activation > Password Activation.

   2. Enter the activation password.
      1. Enter the activation password in the Password text box.

         Click Add to add more passwords to activate licenses in batches.

      2. Read the preceding information, and select I have read the above carefully.
      3. Click Next.

   3. Enter the ESN or click to select an existing device (NE). Separate multiple ESNs with commas (,), and click Next.

   4. After the activation information is verified, click Confirm Activation.

   5. In the dialog box that is displayed, click Confirm.

      The activation task is submitted, and the Operation Record page is displayed. The task name is Activate License By Password.

   6. Download the license file.

        • You can check the task progress on the Operation Record page. After the task status is changed to Success, you can download the license.

        • After the task is executed, the system sends an email to your registered mailbox and you can download the license from the attachment.
4. Load the eSight license.
   1. When the license is imported, eSight automatically restarts. To prevent eSight from switching to the standby node, log in to the active server as the ossuser user and run the following commands to disable the active/standby switchover:

      cd /opt/ommha/ha/bin

      ./forbidden_switch.sh forbidden 30

      In the command, 30 indicates that the switchover is disabled for 30 minutes.

   2. Log in to eSight as a user with administrator rights.
   3. Choose System > System Management > License Management from the main menu.
   4. On the License Management page, click Import License.

   5. Select a license file and click Upload.

      The license file name cannot contain any space character. If the name contains a space character, uploading or updating the license file will fail. If the name of the obtained license file contains space characters, delete the space characters or change them to _ before using the license file.

   6. Click Apply.
      • If the imported license does not include functional module changes but includes only resource item quantity changes, or the license corresponding to the functional module is added or deleted but eSight does not have the corresponding functional module installed, eSight does not need to be restarted and the imported license takes effect immediately.
      • If the imported license includes functional module changes (licenses of the corresponding functional modules are added or deleted) and eSight has the corresponding functional modules installed, perform an operation in the dialog box that is displayed.
        • If you click Yes, eSight automatically restarts within 1 minute. After eSight restarts, the imported license takes effect and functional modules without licenses are not started.
        • If you click No, eSight does not restart and the license import is terminated. The existing license is still used.
   7. Log in to the active server as the ossuser user and run the following command to disable the switchover:

      Before enabling the switchover, ensure that eSight has restarted, which may take 10 to 20 minutes.

      cd /opt/ommha/ha/bin

      ./forbidden_switch.sh cancel

Follow-up Procedure

After the license is imported, choose System > System Management > License Management and check whether the license function items and resource items are correct.
