Installation Plan
The installation personnel learns the detailed description of the installation task through the deployment scheme so that they can reserve sufficient time for installation.
Two VMs are required for deploying a remote HA system. eSight is deployed on both VMs. A local HA system can manage less than 5000 NEs. For a high availability system, you can configure to separate or not separate the southbound and northbound services. Before the installation starts, understand the networking structures for these two scenarios.
- If the southbound and northbound services are separated, the network will be divided into two networks, including the southbound network (network where devices reside) and northbound network (where the upper-layer NMS, 3rd Party and client reside), the northbound network cannot directly access NEs on the southbound network. Devices and other network facilities are separated, enhancing device security and reducing attack risks. Figure 1-1 shows the networking structure.
- An HA system consists of the active and standby eSight servers (two VMs or two physical machines).
- The eSight client and the maintenance tool client communicate with the server through the northbound DCN.
- Devices communicate with the server through the southbound DCN.
- In the southbound and northbound isolation scenario, the web management function under Device Config > Web NMS is unavailable for network devices.
- The eLTE Device Manager manages industry terminals, eNodeBs, and service engines. The multi-subnet function must be enabled. Southbound and northbound isolation is not supported.
- The multi-subnet management function of eSight conflicts with the southbound and northbound service isolation function. When the southbound and northbound service isolation function is enabled, the multi-subnet management function cannot be enabled.
- After the installation is completed in the southbound and northbound isolation scenario, you can modify the IP address of eSight to configure the southbound and northbound isolation scenario as southbound and northbound non-isolation scenario. In such case, the southbound and northbound non-isolation scenario can be rolled back to the southbound and northbound isolation scenario.
- Figure 1-2 shows the networking structure when the southbound and northbound services are not separated.
- An HA system consists of the active and standby eSight servers (two physical machines or VMs).
- The eSight client and the maintenance tool client communicate with the server through the DCN.
- Devices communicate with the server through the DCN.
- After the southbound and northbound non-isolation scenario is installed, you can follow instructions in Changing the eSight IP Address to configure the southbound and northbound non-isolation scenario as southbound and northbound isolation scenario. In such case, the southbound and northbound isolation scenario can be rolled back to the southbound and northbound non-isolation scenario.
