Safety Precautions for Using Fibers
Use fibers in a safe and correct manner to ensure proper operation of the equipment and prevent personal injury and equipment damage.
The laser beam on an optical interface board or from a fiber may cause eye injury. Do not look into optical interfaces or fiber connectors during installation and maintenance.
Cleaning Fiber Connectors and Optical Interfaces
Use special cleaning tools and materials to clean fiber connectors and optical interfaces. Common tools and materials are as follows:
- Special cleaning solvent (Isoamylol is preferred, propyl alcohol is the next option, however ethanol and formalin are forbidden.)
- Non-woven lens tissue
- Dedicated compressed gas
- Cotton stick (medical or long fiber cotton)
- Special cleaning roll (used with the preceding special cleaning solvent)
- Magnifier for optical connectors
Replacing Fibers
Use dust-proof caps to cap the connectors of the fibers that are not in use.
