Process for Using Storage Space on an Application Server
Storage systems can be connected to a variety of application servers including Windows, Linux, UNIX (such as AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris), and VMware application servers. Figure 3-2 shows the process for using storage space on an application server.
- The storage system creates LUNs based on service requirements. To facilitate the centralized management of LUNs, the storage system creates a LUN group for the LUNs.
- The storage system creates hosts which represent application servers. To facilitate the centralized management of hosts, the storage system creates a host group for the hosts.
- The storage system creates a mapping view and adds the host group and LUN group to the mapping view. In this way, the application server, host group, and LUN group are logically associated.
- After the storage system and application server are properly networked, the application server scans LUNs to discover allocated storage space and read/write the LUNs.
