Installing Disks

Prerequisites

Disks compatible with the storage system have been prepared.

Precautions

A storage system only supports disks that match the system model. Disks that do not match the storage system or are not certified by Huawei cannot be used.

Procedure

1. Insert a disk.
   1. Wear an ESD wrist strap, ESD gloves, and ESD clothes.
   2. Take the disk out of the ESD bag.
      • Before inserting a disk, move the disk handle to the fully open position. Otherwise, the disk cannot be fully inserted into a slot.
      • When inserting a disk, align it with a slot and then gently insert it. Do not use excessive force when inserting a disk, or else the disk connector may be damaged.
      • After inserting a disk, wait at least 1 minute before removing it.
   3. Insert the disk into a vacant slot. See step 1 in Figure 7-1.

   4. Move the disk handle to the closed position, as shown in step 2 in Figure 7-1. Then wait for the disk to automatically power on.

      It takes approximately 15 to 30 seconds for a disk to power on.

2. View indicators on the disk to verify the installation.
   • If the disk is running correctly:
     • The disk's Running indicator is steady green.
     • The disk's Alarm/Location indicator is off.
   • If the disk is not installed correctly:
     • The disk's Running indicator is off.
     • The disk's Alarm/Location indicator is steady red.

   If the disk is not installed incorrectly, remove the disk, wait for about 1 minute, and reinsert it. If the Alarm/Location indicator remains steady red, the disk may be defective. In this case, replace it with another one. If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers.

Follow-up Procedure

If there are vacant disk slots after all disks have been added, install filler panels into the vacant slots for protection. The method of installing a filler panel is the same as that of installing a disk.
