Installing and Connecting an Interface Module
Before adding new links, you must install interface modules, connect cables, and configure switches.
Prerequisites
- You have checked the existing network.
- The storage system has a free port. If it does not, install the necessary interface module.
- The application server has a free Fibre Channel or Ethernet port. If it does not, install the necessary HBA or network adapter in a vacant slot.
- You have prepared the following tools and materials required for connection:
- ESD gloves
- ESD clothes
- ESD wrist strap
Procedure
- Wear an ESD wrist strap, gloves, and clothes.
- Optional: Take the interface module out of the ESD bag and insert the module in the vacant slot (a 4-port 8 Gbit/s Fibre Channel interface module is used as an example), as shown in Figure 12-1.
- Optional: Install an HBA or network adapter in a vacant slot on the application server.
- Connect the interface module to the application server.
- Configure the switch.
When adding new links, configure new zones or VLANs according to the port connections between the switches, storage arrays, and application servers. For details, see "Configuring the Host Connectivity" in the Basic Storage Service Configuration Guide of the corresponding product model.
