Planning the Expansion
Planning tasks required for adding links include determining the types and number of interface modules supported by the storage system and those of HBAs or network adapters compatible with the host, and drawing the network diagram after adding links.
Determining the Types and Number of Interface Modules
The number of interface modules to be added must be specified based on the compatibility rules and the live network information. The live network information refers to the information about the types and specifications of existing interface modules.
Comply with the following rules when adding interface modules:
- The types of the interface modules to be added must be supported by the storage system.
- The number of interface modules to be added must not exceed the maximum number supported by a controller.
For the types and specifications of interface modules supported by the storage system, refer to the Specifications Query Assistant (https://support-it.huawei.com/spec/#/home).
Drawing the Topology for Added Links
The topology for added links provides guidance on how to connect cables and perform removal and insertion operations when adding links.
For details about how to draw the topology of the network to which new FC or iSCSI links are added, see Connecting the Controller enclosure to Application Servers in the Installation Guide of the corresponding product model.
When adding links for capacity expansion, bring the cable connection topology to the expansion site and connect cables according to the topology.
