- Controller enclosures to be added have been powered on.
- The network has been deployed based on the scenario.
- There is no critical or major alarm in the storage system.
- The IP addresses of the management network ports on controller enclosures connected to the management network must be different. For details, see section "Changing IP Addresses of Management Network Ports" in the Installation Guide.
Precautions
- SmartKit is used to expand controllers for the storage system.
- The operation procedure varies with the SmartKit version. The actual GUI prevails.
Procedure
- Open SmartKit.
- Add the storage device whose capacity is to be expanded to SmartKit.
- In the main window of SmartKit, click the Devices tab and select Add.
The dialog box for adding devices is displayed.
- In Basic Information, select Specify IP Address (add a device by the IP address) and enter the management IP address of the original storage system. Then click Next.
- In the Login Information area, enter the user name and password of the storage system super administrator and click Finish.
- When a device is added for the first time or a device certificate is not trusted, a message is displayed indicating that the connection is not trusted.
- When an SSH server is added for the first time or the fingerprint of an SSH server changes, a message is displayed asking whether you want to continue to register the SSH server.
- In the main window of SmartKit, click the Devices tab and select Add.
- In the main window of SmartKit, choose Home > Capacity Expansion > Add Controllers.
The Add Controllers page is displayed.
- Select devices.
- Click Device Selection. The Select Devices dialog box is displayed.
- Select the storage system for which you want to expand controllers and the results save folder and click OK.
- Ensure compliance with the safety operation guide.
- Click Safety Operation Guide. The Safety Operation Guide dialog box is displayed.
- Make sure that the prerequisites displayed on the user interface have been prepared. Select the prerequisites and click Confirm.
- Evaluate the capacity expansion solution.
- Click Expansion Evaluation.
The Expansion Configuration page is displayed.
- (Optional) For devices that are configured with HyperMetro, select the device you want to perform capacity expansion evaluation from the device list and click Next.
- Select a capacity expansion scenario.
Select Add controllers in Capacity expansion scenario. Select the number of controllers after the capacity expansion, and enter the BOM codes of the new enclosure by referring to the BOQ for capacity expansion. Use commas (,) to separate multiple BOM codes.
- Click Add Hardware Information and Expansion Mode.
You can add multiple configuration policies.
- Specify the configuration parameters according to the capacity expansion plan. Table 11-14 lists the parameters.
Table 11-14 Capacity evaluation parameters
Parameter
Description
Storage Capacity Expansion Mode
Method to add storage space.
BOM of Disk
BOM code of the new disk.
NOTE:- If the BOM code of the new disk is the same as an existing one in the storage system, select the BOM code from the drop-down list.
- If the BOM code of the new disk is not included in the drop-down list box, select Customize.
- To add multiple disk types, click Add Hardware Information and Expansion Mode to add new configuration policies.
Disk Type
Type of the new disks.
NOTE:- When Customize is selected for BOM of Disk, you need to manually select a disk type.
- Self-encrypting drives (SEDs) are supported.
Physical Capacity of a Single Disk
Capacity of the new disks.
NOTE:When Customize is selected for BOM of Disk, you need to manually enter the disk capacity.
Capacity Unit
Capacity unit of the new disks.
NOTE:When Customize is selected for BOM of Disk, you need to manually select a capacity unit.
Disk Quantity
Number of new disks.
Operation
You can click Delete to delete the current configuration policy.
- Click Next.
The Information page is displayed.
- Read and confirm the displayed message, and click OK.
The Start Evaluation page is displayed and the system starts evaluating the capacity expansion solution.
- After the evaluation is complete, click Open the report to go to the save path of the evaluation report. The report is a .zip file named by the evaluation time.
- You can also click View the report to open the report directly.
- Click Finish.
Rectify the failed items (if any) according to the suggestions and evaluate the solution again. If the items fail again, contact Huawei technical support engineers for assistance. Otherwise, risks may arise during capacity expansion.
- Click Expansion Evaluation.
- Open the Add Controller Wizard dialog box.
- Click Expansion.
The Expansion page is displayed.
- Select Add Controller.
The Select Expansion Mode dialog box is displayed.
- Select Networking Mode and Configuration after expansion.
Set Networking Mode to Switch-based network and Configuration to the number of controllers after expansion.
- Click OK.
The Add Controller Wizard dialog box is displayed.
- Click Expansion.
- Add controllers as prompted by the wizard.
- Confirm the precautions of SmartKit.
- If the expansion engine has been unpacked before or has been powered on before, perform operations in Clearing Configuration Information About Controllers to Be Added.
- Ensure that the AD process has been enabled. For details, see Enabling the AD Process for New Controllers.
Select I have read the previous information and understood consequences of the operation and click Next.
The Check Before Capacity Expansion page is displayed.
- The system automatically checks the expansion condition.
If any check item fails, rectify the faults and perform the check again.
After all check items are passed, click Next.
If the item The IBC public/private key pair is the default one is not passed, see How Can I Restore the IBC Public/Private Key Pair to the Default Value?
The Confirm the Networking Environment page is displayed.
- Click the network diagram to obtain the network diagram.
It is recommended that you connect the cables according to the networking diagram in this document. Other networking may cause controller expansion failure.
Ensure that cables are properly connected according to the network diagram.
Select I have read the previous information and understood consequences of the operation and click Next.
The Scan for Node Information page is displayed.
