Expanding Disks Using SmartKit
After all the needed disks have been added, use the capacity expansion tool on SmartKit to add the capacities to the storage space.
Procedure
- Open SmartKit.
- Add the storage device for capacity expansion.
- In the main window of SmartKit, click the Devices tab and select Add.
The dialog box for adding devices is displayed.
- In Basic Information, select Specify IP Address (add a device by the IP address). Then enter the management IP address of the storage system and click Next.
- In the Login Information area, enter the user name and password of the storage system super administrator and click Finish.
- When a device is added for the first time or a device certificate is not trusted, a message is displayed indicating that the connection is not trusted.
- When an SSH server is added for the first time or the fingerprint of an SSH server changes, a message is displayed asking whether you want to continue to register the SSH server.
- In the main window of SmartKit, click the Devices tab and select Add.
- In the main window of SmartKit, choose Home > Storage > Capacity Expansion > Add Disks/Disk Enclosures/Disk Cabinets.
The Add Disks/Disk Enclosures/Disk Cabinets page is displayed.
- Select devices.
- Click Device Selection.
- In the Select Devices dialog box, select the storage system for which you want to add disks and specify the Results Save Folder. Then click OK.
- Ensure compliance with the safe operation guidelines.
- Click Safety Operation Guide.
- Make sure that the prerequisites displayed in the Safety Operation Guide dialog box are met. Select the items and click OK.
- Evaluate the capacity expansion solution.
- Click Expansion Evaluation.
The Expansion Configuration page is displayed.
- (Optional) For devices that are configured with HyperMetro, select the device you want to perform capacity expansion evaluation from the device list and click Next.
- Select a capacity expansion scenario.
Adding disks, disk enclosures, or disk cabinets
Select Add disks, disk enclosures, and disk cabinets in Capacity expansion scenario.
- Click Add Hardware Information and Expansion Mode.
You can add multiple configuration policies.
- Specify the configuration parameters according to the capacity expansion plan. Table 7-2 lists the parameters.

NOTE:- If the BOM code of the new disk is the same as an existing one in the storage system, select the BOM code from the drop-down list.
- If the BOM code of the new disk is not included in the drop-down list box, select Customize.
- To add multiple disk types, click Add Hardware Information and Expansion Mode to add new configuration policies.
Disk Type
Type of the new disks.
NOTE:- When Customize is selected for BOM of Disk, you need to manually select a disk type.
- Self-encrypting drives (SEDs) are supported.
Physical Capacity of a Single Disk
Capacity of the new disks.
NOTE:When Customize is selected for BOM of Disk, you need to manually enter the disk capacity.
Capacity Unit
Capacity unit of the new disks.
NOTE:When Customize is selected for BOM of Disk, you need to manually select a capacity unit.
Disk Quantity
Number of new disks.
Operation
You can click Delete to delete the current configuration policy.
- Click Next.
The Information page is displayed.
- Read and confirm the displayed message, and click OK.
The Start Evaluation page is displayed and the system starts evaluating the capacity expansion solution.
- After the evaluation is complete, click Open the report to go to the save path of the evaluation report. The report is a .zip file named by the evaluation time.
- You can also click View the report to open the report directly.
- Click Finish.
Rectify the failed items (if any) according to the suggestions and evaluate the solution again. If the items fail again, contact Huawei technical support engineers for assistance. Otherwise, risks may arise during capacity expansion.
- Click Expansion Evaluation.
- Follow the wizard to expand the capacity.
- Click Expansion. A dialog box prompts you to select an object to be expanded.
- Select Adding Disks. In the dialog box that is displayed, select For details, refer to the Adding Disks Operation Guide or Installing Disks.
- Select I confirm that the check has been performed and click OK.
- Inspect the system after expansion.
- Click Post-Expansion Inspection. The inspection tool page is displayed.
- Click Select Check Items.
In the check item list, select the items you want to check.
- Click Next to start the inspection.
- Open the result directory is linked to the directory that stores the inspection report.
- View the report is linked to the inspection results that are saved as .html files. These files are also compressed and stored in the result directory.
- Click Finish. The inspection is complete.
