Deploying Hardware
This section describes how to install the interface modules on the storage system and the HBAs on the application server before links are added.
Prerequisites
- You have checked the existing network and decided to add new links.
- You have confirmed that the storage system has idle ports. If it does not, install the necessary interface modules.
- You have confirmed that the application server has idle Fibre Channel ports or network ports. If it does not, install the necessary HBAs or network adapters in vacant slots. You can see the corresponding instructions to install and configure the network adapters.
The following tools and materials have been prepared:
- ESD gloves
- ESD clothes
- ESD wrist strap
Installing Interface Modules
- Wear the ESD wrist strap, ESD gloves, and ESD clothes.
- (Optional) Take the interface module out of its ESD bag and insert the module in the empty slot, as shown in Figure D-3.
- Connect the interface module to the application server based on the planned topology.
- Configure switches.
Installing an HBA or Network Adapter
- Wear the ESD wrist strap, ESD gloves, and ESD clothes.
- (Optional) Take the HBA or network adapter out of its ESD bag.
- Install an HBA or network adapter in an empty slot on the application server.
- Connect the interface module to the application server.
- Configure switches.
