Replacing a Fan Module (for a High-Density Disk Enclosure)
This section describes how to replace a fan module.
Prerequisites
- The spare part is on hand.
- The fan module that you want to replace has been located.
You can locate a component in either of the following ways:
- Locating a component based on alarms in DeviceManager: On the Alarms and Events page of DeviceManager, view the help information and determine the ID of the component to be replaced. Then locate the component at your site based on its ID.
- Locating a component based on the status of its Running/Alarm indicator: For details about the indicators on different components, see "Indicator Introduction" of each component in the Product Description specific to your product model and version.
Precautions
- Do not touch rotating fan blades.
- Remove and insert a fan module with even force. Excessive force may damage the appearance or connectors.
- Remove only one fan module at a time.
- Replace a fan within two minutes. Otherwise, system services may be affected.
Tools and Materials
- ESD wrist strap
- ESD bag
- Labels
Procedure
- Perform a pre-replacement check.Check whether there is a redundant fan module and whether the Running/Alarm indicator of the fan module is steady green, as shown in Figure 7-126. For details about the indicators on different components, see "Indicator Introduction" in the Product Description of the corresponding model.
You can perform replacement only when a redundant fan module exists and the redundant fan module is working properly.
- Wear an ESD wrist strap.
- Press the latch on the fan module to release the handle and pull out the fan module, as shown in Figure 7-127.
- Put the removed fan module into an ESD bag.
- Take the spare part out of its ESD bag.
- Fully open the handle on the spare part, insert the spare part, and close the handle, as shown in Figure 7-128.
- Wait approximately two minutes and check the status of the fan module Running/Alarm indicator to determine whether the fan module has been successfully installed. Figure 7-129 shows the location of a fan module Running/Alarm indicator.
- If the indicator is steady green, the fan module has been successfully installed.
- If the indicator is steady red or off, the newly installed fan module is faulty, the slot for the fan module is faulty, or the fan module is incorrectly installed.
- Confirm the replacement.
After the preceding procedure is complete, check services on the host for storage-related errors. If any storage-related error is reported, contact Huawei technical support.
Follow-up Procedure
After the fan module is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
