Replacing a BBU (for OceanStor 5500 V5, 5500F V5, 5600 V5, 5600F V5, 5800 V5, or 5800F V5)
This section describes how to replace a BBU.
Prerequisites
- The spare part is on hand.
- Configuration data has been backed up.
- The BBU that you want to replace has been located.
You can locate a component in either of the following ways:
- Locating a component based on alarms in DeviceManager: On the Alarms and Events page of DeviceManager, view the help information and determine the ID of the component to be replaced. Then locate the component at your site based on its ID.
- Locating a component based on the status of its Running/Alarm indicator: For details about the indicators on different components, see "Indicator Introduction" of each component in the Product Description specific to your product model and version.
- The two BBUs are installed in two power-BBU modules. Therefore, remove the power modules before removing the BBUs.
- Before replacing a BBU, ensure that the power-BBU module in which the other BBU resides is working properly.
Precautions
- Remove and insert a BBU with even force. Excessive force may damage the appearance of the BBU or cause faults.
- Remove only one BBU at a time.
- A BBU must be replaced within three minutes. Otherwise, the system heat dissipation is compromised.
Tools and Materials
- ESD wrist strap
- ESD bag
- Labels
Procedure
- Perform a pre-replacement check.Check whether there is a redundant BBU and whether the Running/Alarm indicator of the BBU is steady green, as shown in Figure 7-100 or Figure 7-101. For details about the indicators on different components, see "Indicator Introduction" in the Product Description of the corresponding model.
You can perform replacement only when a redundant BBU exists and the redundant BBU is working properly.
- Wear an ESD wrist strap.
- Remove the power cables.
- Remove the velcro strap that secures the power cable, as shown in step 1 in Figure 7-102.
- Remove the AC power cable, as shown in step 2 in Figure 7-102.
- Press the latch on the power module and pull the handle of the power module outwards to pull out the power module, as shown in Figure 7-103.
- Put the removed power module into an ESD bag.
- Open the latch on the ejector lever of the BBU, hold the ejector lever, and pull out the BBU, as shown in Figure 7-104.
- Put the removed BBU into an ESD bag.
- Take the spare part out of its ESD bag.
- Pull out the ejector lever of the BBU to be installed, insert the BBU into the empty slot, and push the BBU into the slot as much as possible, as shown in Figure 7-105.
- Push the BBU inwards using the ejector lever until the BBU is completely inserted into the slot, as shown in Figure 7-106.
- Insert the power module into the empty slot, as shown in Figure 7-107.
- Connect the power cables.
- Connect the power cable to the cable port on the AC power module, as shown in step 1 in Figure 7-108.
- Secure the power cable using a velcro strap, as shown in step 2 in Figure 7-108.
Adjust the position of the velcro strap to ensure that the velcro strap can fasten the AC power cable and the connector of the AC power cable is secure.
- Wait about two minutes and check the status of the Running/Alarm indicator on the BBU to determine whether the BBU has been successfully installed. Figure 7-109 or Figure 7-110 shows the location of the Running/Alarm indicator.
- If the indicator is steady green or blinking green, the BBU has been successfully installed.
- If the indicator is steady yellow or off, the newly installed BBU is faulty, the BBU slot is faulty, or the BBU is incorrectly installed.
- Confirm the replacement.
After the preceding procedure is complete, check services on the host for storage-related errors. If any storage-related error is reported, contact Huawei technical support.
Follow-up Procedure
After the BBU is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
