Replacing a Fan Module (for a 4 U SAS Disk Enclosure)
This section describes how to replace a fan module.
Prerequisites
- The spare part is on hand.
- The fan module that you want to replace has been located.
You can locate a component in either of the following ways:
- Locating a component based on alarms in DeviceManager: On the Alarms and Events page of DeviceManager, view the help information and determine the ID of the component to be replaced. Then locate the component at your site based on its ID.
- Locating a component based on the status of its Running/Alarm indicator: For details about the indicators on different components, see "Indicator Introduction" of each component in the Product Description specific to your product model and version.
Precautions
- Do not touch rotating fan blades.
- Remove and insert a fan module with even force. Excessive force may damage the appearance of the fan module or cause faults.
- Remove only one fan module at a time.
- A fan module must be replaced within three minutes. Otherwise, the system heat dissipation is compromised.
- To avoid the sharp increase of the system temperature, replace only faulty fan modules.
Tools and Materials
- ESD wrist strap
- ESD bag
- Labels
Procedure
- Perform a pre-replacement check.Check whether there is a redundant fan module and whether the Running/Alarm indicator of the fan module is steady green, as shown in Figure 7-122. For details about the indicators on different components, see "Indicator Introduction" in the Product Description of the corresponding model.
You can perform replacement only when a redundant fan module exists and the redundant fan module is working properly.
- Wear an ESD wrist strap.
- Press the latch on the fan module to release the handle and pull out the fan module, as shown in Figure 7-123.
- Put the removed fan module into an ESD bag.
- Take the spare part out of its ESD bag.
- Open the handle of the spare part, insert the spare part into the empty slot, and close the handle, as shown in Figure 7-124.
- Wait about two minutes and check the status of the Running/Alarm indicator on the fan module to determine whether the fan module has been successfully installed. Figure 7-125 shows the location of the Running/Alarm indicator.
- If the indicator is steady green, the fan module has been successfully installed.
- If the indicator is steady yellow or off, the newly installed fan module is faulty, the fan module slot is faulty, or the fan module is incorrectly installed.
- Confirm the replacement.
After the preceding procedure is complete, check services on the host for storage-related errors. If any storage-related error is reported, contact Huawei technical support.
Follow-up Procedure
After the fan module is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
