Licensing Requirements and Limitations for Traffic Distribution
Involved Network Elements
The switches need to work with a third-party network probe and packet analysis servers in order to properly configure traffic distribution.
Licensing Requirements
On the S12700 series switches, the traffic distribution function (except ECMP-based distribution of packets with the same source address and destination address) is under license control and is unavailable by default. To use this function on the S12700 series switches, apply for and purchase the license from the equipment supplier. If the License is unavailable, the traffic distribution commands can be run on the device, but cannot take effect. On the S12700E series switches, the traffic distribution function is not under license control.
For details about how to apply for a license, see Obtaining Licenses in the S12700 and S12700E Series Agile Switches License Usage Guide.

Feature Limitations
- The traffic distribution feature is supported by only optical interface cards, but not supported by electrical interface cards. In the description above, all the cards supporting the traffic distribution feature are optical interface cards.
- After a device is configured to ensure data integrity, the device can only perform Layer 3 forwarding but cannot perform Layer 2 forwarding. Therefore, it is recommended that you configure the traffic distribution feature on a switch where no other features are configured to avoid the failure of features that use Layer 2 forwarding.
- On a switch, after a traffic distribution License is loaded and the load-balance diffluence command is executed, the mac-address learning disable command is automatically executed on all interfaces to disable MAC address learning.
- The unidirectional single-fiber communication function (single-fiber enable) and the MAC swap loopback function cannot be used together.
- Eth-Trunk-based (load-balance diffluence) and ECMP-based (ecmp load-balance diffluence) flow pair distribution to the same server cannot be configured on the same device. The system will display an error message if you configure both of them on a device.
