Licensing Requirements and Limitations for BFD
Involved Network Elements
Other network elements are required to support BFD functions.
Licensing Requirements
BFD is a basic feature of a switch and is not under license control.
Feature Support in V200R019C10
All models of S12700 and S12700E series switches support BFD.
Feature Limitations
If a loop occurs on the path detected by BFD, the change of the network topology where the loop exists may cause the BFD session to flap at one time.
In V200R013 and earlier versions, when BFD is bound to a sub-interface, only dot1q terminal sub-interface supports BFD function.
When the BFD session is bound to the Eth-Trunk and the detection time is less than 300 ms, you are not advised to add or delete Eth-Trunk member interfaces. Otherwise, the BFD session may flap.
To implement 50-ms switching, the device must support the 3.3-ms interval for sending and receiving BFD packets. The configuration is supported only when the MPU is MPUA, MPUE, or MPUD.
In BFD for VXLAN scenarios, the encapsulation type can be set to QinQ for Layer 2 sub-interfaces on the access side only on X series cards.
