Possible Causes
1. The clock source was in an incorrect state.
2. The frequency offset of the clock signals exceeded the allowed value range.
3. The interface used for clock synchronization is forcibly shut down.
4. The signal type was improperly configured for the external clock source.
Procedure
- View the name of the clock source to determine the type of the clock source.
If the clock source is a line clock source, go to step 2.
If the clock source is an external clock source, go to step 3.
If the clock source is a PTP clock source, go to step 8.
- Check whether the link is properly connected and the indicator is on.
If so, go to step 4.
If not, go to step 10.
- Run the display clock config command to check whether the clock signal types of the external clock sources are the same. The clock signal type can be 2mbps or 2mhz.
If so, go to step 6.
If not, go to step 9.
- Run the display interface brief command to check whether the directly connected interfaces are shut down.
If so, go to step 5.
If not, go to step 10.
- Run the undo shutdown command on the interface to start it.
- Run the display clock source command on the peer end to check whether the signals are output.
If so, go to step 7.
If not, go to step 10.
- Run the clock bits output-threshold command on the peer end to restore the default threshold or decrease the threshold.
- Run the clock bits-type bits0/1 command to configure the signal type as 2mbps or 2mhz on both ends. Go to step 11.
- Configure the clock again. For details, see 1588v2 Configuration in Configuration Guide - System Management. Go to step 11.
- Collect alarm information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel.

Impact on the System
If the clock source is switched to an empty source, the clock signal accuracy will degrade.
If the new clock source provides clock signals of better qualities, services will not be affected.

Possible Causes
- The attribute of a clock device on the network was changed, which caused the switch of the clock source.
- An associated link failed or an associated interface became Down, which caused the switch of the clock source.
- The clock source was manually switched when the clock source selection mode was manual or force.
Procedure
- Run the display clock source command to check the operating mode of the clock source.
If the operating mode is free, it indicates that the clock source is in the free oscillation state. Then, go to Step 6.
If the operating mode is hold, it indicates that the clock source is in the hold state. Then, go to Step 6.
If the operating mode is normal, go to Step 2.
- Run the display clock config command to check the clock source selection mode.
If the clock source selection mode is manual or force, it indicates that the clock source is switched forcibly. Then, go to Step 6.
If the clock source selection mode is auto, go to Step 3.
- Run the display clock source command to check whether the clock source is in the normal state.
If the clock source is not in the normal state, go to Step 5.

Impact on the System
In standard SSM mode, the local interface failed to obtain the SSM quality level of the peer interface, and the clock status of the local interface was abnormal.
Possible Causes
In standard SSM mode, the Ethernet interface in the clock source list failed to receive ESMC packets within 5 seconds.
Procedure
- Run the display clock config command on the peer device and check whether the clock synchronization function is enabled on the peer interface.
If yes, go to Step 3.
If no, go to Step 2.
- Run the clock synchronization enable command on the peer interface and check whether the ESMC packet loss alarm is cleared on the local interface.
If the alarm is cleared, go to Step 4.
If the alarm persists, go to Step 3.
- Collect alarm information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel.
- End.
