ENTITYEXTTRAP_1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.25.31.2.2.12 hwEntityRuntPacketCheckNotify
Description
ENTITYEXTTRAP/3/PKTCHECKERR: OID [oid] Recovery of runt packet has been detected for more than 5000 times. (SlotID=[S TRING], UnitID=[INTEGER], PortID=[STRING])
The system has experienced more than 5000 fault recoveries after receiving Runt packets (undersized packets passing CRC checks).
Attribute
Alarm ID | Alarm Severity | Alarm Type |
---|---|---|
1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.25.31.2.2.12 | Minor | communicationsAlarm(2) |
Parameters
Name | Meaning |
---|---|
oid | Indicates the MIB object ID of the alarm. |
SlotID | Indicates a slot ID. |
UnitID | Indicates a chip ID. |
PortID | Indicates a physical port ID on the chip. |
Impact on the System
Service forwarding on an interface may be abnormal after the interface receives undersized Runt packets.
Possible Causes
A switch automatically rectifies the fault after receiving Runt packets. The faulty recovery process will cause short service interruption. If such fault recoveries are performed frequently, this alarm is generated.
Procedure
- Check the link status on the interface. If the link status is abnormal, replace the network cable or optical fibers on the interface, and then run the display interface interface-type [ interface-number ] command to check Runt packet statistics on the interface. If the Runts field shows that the interface still receives Runt packets, go to step 2.
- Check whether any upstream device is sending Runt packets. If such a device is found, analyze the reason why this device sends Runt packets and rectify the fault. If no upstream device is sending Runt packets, go to step 3.
- Collect alarm information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel.
ENTITYEXTTRAP_1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.25.31.2.2.13 hwBoardDropRuntPacketNotify
Description
ENTITYEXTTRAP/4/RUNTPKTDROP: OID [OID] The board has been detected that discards the runt packets, which may affect services. (PhysicalIndex=[INTEGER], PhysicalName=[OCTET], BoardDroppedRuntPkt=[COUNTER64], TimeInterval=[INTEGER])
An alarm is generated when some packets of 64 to 86 bytes or 145 to 193 bytes, which are forwarded by the card at the line rate, are lost.
Attribute
Alarm ID | Alarm Severity | Alarm Type |
---|---|---|
1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.25.31.2.2.13 | Warning | qualityOfServiceAlarm(3) |
Parameters
Name | Meaning |
---|---|
OID | Indicates the MIB object ID of the alarm. |
PhysicalIndex | Indicates the index of a card. |
PhysicalName | Indicates the name of a card. |
BoardDroppedRuntPkt | Indicates the number of dropped packets. |
TimeInterval | Indicates the interval at which statistics about dropped packets are collected. |
ENTITYEXTTRAP_1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.25.31.2.2.14 hwEntityHigDiscardPacketNotify
Description
ENTITYEXTTRAP/3/DISCARD_PKT: OID [oid] Packets are discarded for congestion. (SlotID=[STRING], UnitID=[INTEGER], PortID=[STRING], PeerSlotID=[STRING], DiscardNumber=[STRING], Threshold=[INTEGER], Interval=[INTEGER](s))
The number of packets discarded on an HG channel due to congestion within 300s reaches 300.
Attribute
Alarm ID | Alarm Severity | Alarm Type |
---|---|---|
1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.5.25.31.2.2.14 |
Minor |
communicationsAlarm(2) |
Parameters
Name | Meaning |
---|---|
OID |
Indicates the MIB object ID of the alarm. |
SlotID |
Indicates a slot ID. |
UnitID |
Indicates a chip ID. |
PortID |
Indicates the port number of the HG channel. |
PeerSlotID |
Indicates the slot ID of the remote card. |
DiscardNumber |
Indicates the number of discarded packets. |
Threshold |
Indicates the alarm threshold for the number of discarded packets. |
Interval |
Indicates the interval for collecting traffic statistics. |
Impact on the System
If this alarm is generated, severe network congestion occurred on the network. If this problem is not solved in a timely manner, more packets will be discarded due to network congestion, which will affect running services.
Possible Causes
Packets are discarded because the uplink traffic volume of the HG channel exceeds the downlink bandwidth capacity.
Procedure
- Check whether the card uplink bandwidth is higher than the downlink bandwidth.
- If so, go to step 2.
- If not, collect log information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel. You can collect diagnostic information using the display diagnostic-information command.
- Re-plan the networking or replace the card for uplink traffic direction.
