Expanding the Capacity of LUNs in a Remote Replication Pair
The capacity of LUNs in a remote replication pair that has been split can be expanded.
Prerequisites
- The storage pool where the primary and secondary LUNs reside has sufficient space.
- If the capacity of both LUNs needs to be expanded, Pair Running Status of the remote replication pair is not invalid, Pair Health Status is Normal, and the remote device is normal. After capacity expansion is complete, the capacity of the member LUNs in the remote replication pair is expanded successfully, the capacity of the primary LUN is the same as that of the secondary LUN, and the status is unchanged.
- If the capacity of a LUN needs to be expanded, the health status of the remote device is normal, and Pair Running Status of the remote replication pair is not invalid.
If you expand the capacity of one LUN using the CLI, Pair Running Status of the remote replication pair cannot be Synchronizing or Normal. After the capacity of the LUN is expanded successfully, the status is unchanged.
- The LUNs for which you want to expand capacity are in normal state.
Context
The capacity of the primary LUN is the same as that of the secondary LUN after capacity expansion.
Procedure
- Expand the capacity of the primary LUN and the secondary LUN respectively.
- On the navigation bar, choose Services > LUNs.
- Click
on the right of the LUN to be expanded and select Expand from the drop-down list.
The Expand dialog box is displayed.
- Set Added Capacity to the amount of capacity that you want to add and select a unit.
- (Optional) Select or deselect Only expand the local LUN.
- Only expand the local LUN is displayed only when the LUN belongs to a HyperMetro pair, remote replication pair, or DR Star trio.
- If you do not select Only expand the local LUN, the system will expand both the local and remote LUNs in the HyperMetro pair, remote replication pair, or DR Star trio. If you select Only expand the local LUN, the system will only expand the local LUN. In this case, manually expand the remote LUN to ensure the availability of HyperMetro, remote replication, or DR Star.
- You are advised to select Only expand the local LUN in the following scenarios:
- The link to the remote device is disconnected.
- The capacities of the local and remote LUNs are different.
- The local device is a remote device in HyperMetro or asynchronous remote replication in a DR Star trio.
- The remote LUN is in another protection relationship.
- Click OK.
- Verify and use the added capacity.
- Click the LUN whose capacity has been expanded and view its current Capacity.
If the Capacity value is the same as the actual capacity (the original capacity plus the added capacity), the capacity expansion is successful. Otherwise, rectify the fault based on the alarm information.
- After the capacity expansion is successful, log in to the application server as the system administrator and scan for disks again. After the scanning is successful, the newly added storage capacity is available to the application server.
- Click the LUN whose capacity has been expanded and view its current Capacity.
- If you expand the capacity of one LUN, synchronize the data in the remote replication pair manually after capacity expansion.
