BIOS Settings

Function Description

On the BIOS Settings page, you can set the first boot device for the OS on the server.

GUI

Choose System > BIOS Settings.

The page shown in Figure 3-24 is displayed.

Description

Preferred Boot Medium
  • Hard Drive: Select this option to boot the OS from the hard drive.
  • DVD-ROM: Select this option to boot the OS from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  • FDD/Removable Device: Select this option to boot the OS from a virtual floppy disk drive (FDD) or removable device.
  • PXE: Select this option to boot the OS from the Preboot Execution Environment (PXE).
  • BIOS Setup: Select this option to display the BIOS Setup menu upon server startup.
  • No Override: Select this option to boot the OS from the first boot device specified on the BIOS.
  • One-time: The preferred boot device specified is only used for booting the next time the server is restarted. After the server is restarted, the value of Preferred Boot Medium is automatically changed to No Override.
  • Permanent: The setting of the preferred boot medium takes effect permanently.

Boot Priority

When Preferred Boot Medium is set to No Override, the OS is booted according to the setting of Boot Priority.

You can click to move an option up and click to move an option down.

The default boot priority is as follows:
  • Hard disk drive
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • PXE
  • Others
NOTE:
  • The boot priority settings on the BIOS takes effect immediately. If the OS is restarted, the boot priority settings on the iBMC will be synchronized with the settings on the BIOS.
  • The boot priority settings on the iBMC takes effect after the OS is restarted. After the OS is restarted, the boot priority settings on the BIOS will be synchronized with the settings on the iBMC.

Setting the Boot Device

  1. On the Boot Device tab, set the first boot device for the server OS. For details about the parameters, see Table 3-24.
  2. Click Save.
