Manually Creating a Host

Procedure

1. Log in to DeviceManager.
2. Choose Provisioning > Host.
3. Choose Create > Manually Create.

   The Create Host Wizard dialog box is displayed.

4. Set basic information for the host.

   Table 4-12 describes related parameters.

   Table 4-12 Host parameters

   Parameter	Description	Setting
   Name	Name of a host.	[Value range] The name must be unique. The name can contain only letters, digits, periods (.), underscores (_), and hyphens (-). The name must contain 1 to 31 characters. [Example] Host001
   Description	Description of a host.	[Example] -
   OS	Operating system used by a host. NOTE: The selected operating system must be the same as that of the host that connects to the storage system.	[Value range] Possible values are Linux, Windows, Windows Server 2012, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, XenServer, Mac OS, VMware ESX, Oracle VM, and OpenVMS. NOTE: If the host runs the Windows operating system and you need to use the space reclaiming function of thin LUNs, select Windows Server 2012. If the application type is FusionCompute, you are advised to select Linux. [Example] VMware ESX
   IP Address	IP address of a host.	[Example] 192.168.1.100 NOTE: If the host is connected using iSCSI links, enter the service IP address of the host for easier management and search.
   Device Location	Location of a host.	[Example] Beijing

5. Click Next.
6. Configure an initiator for the host.
   1. In the Available Initiators area, select Initiator Type based on your service needs.
   2. In the initiator list, select one or more initiators.
   3. Click to add the initiator to the Selected Initiators area.
   • If the initiator information has been configured on the application server, DeviceManager can automatically detect the configured initiator, and you do not need to create initiators manually. Do not add initiators on different application servers to a same host. Create an initiator if none is available in the list.
   • If the host operating system is HP-UX, create an initiator manually.
   • If CHAP authentication is not enabled, click Properties. In the Initiator Properties dialog box that is displayed, configure the CHAP authentication parameters.
   • If CHAP authentication has been enabled and you want to change the CHAP authentication password, click Properties. In the Initiator Properties dialog box that is displayed, change the CHAP authentication password. When you change the CHAP authentication password, you must enter the old password.
   • The CHAP authentication user name and password configured on the storage system must be the same as those configured on the application server. After changing the CHAP authentication password on the storage system, you must use the new password to configure CHAP authentication again on the application server.

7. Confirm the host creation.

   GUIs may vary with product versions and models. The actual GUIs prevail.

   1. Click Next.

      The Summary page is displayed.

   2. Click Finish to confirm the information of the host to be created.

      The security alert dialog box is displayed.

   3. Confirm the information in the dialog box and select I have read and understand the consequences associated with performing this operation.
   4. Click OK.

      The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

   5. Click Close.
