Activating Snapshots Consistently

Prerequisites

• Snapshots have been created on the storage system.
• Running Status of each of the snapshots to be activated consistently is Unactivated.
• The used capacity of the storage pool does not exceed the threshold. Otherwise, the snapshot fails to be activated.

Precautions

• If snapshots are created in the system view and a source LUN has multiple inactive snapshots, you can choose only one of its inactive snapshots in each consistent snapshot activation. If snapshots are created in the vStore view, you can only choose snapshots of source LUNs that reside in the same vStore for a consistent activation. In addition, snapshots selected in each consistent activation must be those created in the same view, either the system view or the vStore view.
• If a controller of the storage system resets during the snapshot consistency activation, the activation of some snapshots may be canceled, leading to a data inconsistency risk. To avoid such a problem, activate snapshots consistently again.
• The maximum number of LUNs supported by consistency activation varies with product models. For details, see "Software Specifications" in the Product Description specific to each version.

Procedure

1. Log in to DeviceManager.
2. Choose Data Protection > Snapshot > LUN.
3. Activate snapshots consistently.
   1. On the menu bar, choose Consistently Activate.

      The Consistently Activate dialog box is displayed.

   2. In Available Snapshots, select the snapshots you want to consistently activate and click to move them to Selected Snapshots.
   3. Click OK.

      The security alert dialog box is displayed.

4. Confirm the operation of activating snapshots consistently.
   1. Confirm the information in the dialog box, select I have read and understand the consequences associated with performing this operation, and click OK.

      The Success dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

   2. Click OK.
