Replacing an FRU
This section describes how to use the FRU replacement tool to replace parts.
Context
FRUs are components that engineers can replace at the deployment site by performing the operations in the operation guide.
This section uses an optical module as an example.
Install the latest SmartKit before replacing an FRU.
Operators: technical support engineers and maintenance engineers from Huawei or certified by Huawei
You can click the question mark (?) in the upper right corner of the page to obtain the instructions.
Procedure
- Log in to SmartKit.
- (Optional) Download the FRU Replacement tool package. If the FRU Replacement tool package has been downloaded, go to 3.
- If you can access Internet on your maintenance terminal, choose Home > Storage > Parts Replacement > Parts Replacement. In the dialog box that is displayed, click OK to download and install the FRU Replacement tool.
- If you cannot access Internet on your maintenance terminal, click Function Management on the home page. On the page that is displayed, click Import to import a package that has been exported from another SmartKit environment and install it in offline mode.
For details about offline installation operations, see "Function Import" and "Function Export" in the SmartKit User Guide.
- Choose Home > Storage > Parts Replacement > Parts Replacement. The Parts Replacement page is displayed.
- Click Device Selection. The Select Device dialog box is displayed.Figure 6-9 Select Device
- In the device list, select the device of which parts you want to replace and click OK.
If the device does not appear in the list, follow instructions in Add Device to add the device. For details, see 5 in Checking System Status.
- Click Parts Replacement, select the device of which parts you want to replace and click OK. In the FRU Replacement dialog box, select the parts to be replaced. For example, select Optical Module.
- After selecting a part that you want to replace, perform the subsequent operations as prompted by the wizard. This section uses an optical module as an example to describe how to replace an FRU.
- On the FRU Replacement page, the components include:
- Front-end components: Indicates components connected to application servers, such as front-end interface modules and cables.
- Back-end components: Indicates components connected to disk enclosures, such as back-end interface modules and cables.
- IP scale-out components: Indicates components connected to controller enclosures, such as IP scale-out interface modules and cables.
The Replace Optical Module Wizard dialog box is displayed.
Figure 6-10 Replace Optical Module Wizard 4-1By default, only faulty optical modules are displayed. If you want to view all optical modules, deselect Show faulty components only.
- In the optical module list, select the optical module that you want to replace and click Next.
Check the system before the replacement.
Figure 6-11 Replace Optical Module Wizard 4-2If services on the port corresponding to the replaced optical module fail, the Danger dialog box is displayed.
- If the risk can be ignored, select I have read and understand the consequence associated with performing this operation, click OK, and go to 8.
- If you need to perform the replacement again, click Cancel and then confirm that the interface module and the controller corresponding to the optical module are working normally. If the Danger dialog box is displayed again, contact Huawei technical support.
- Click Next.
The optical module replacement page is displayed.
You can proceed to next steps only when all items pass the pre-replacement check.
- Replace the optical module by performing operations in the operation guide.
- Click Replaced.
The Warning dialog box is displayed.
Before this operation, you need to manually replace the faulty parts.
- Click OK.
Check the system after the replacement.

The optical module replacement is complete.
