Creating a Snapshot
A snapshot can be created to generate a copy of the source file system at the current point in time. A snapshot is available immediately after it is created. Read operations on the snapshot does not affect the data in the source file system.
Prerequisites
One or more file systems have been created in the storage system.
Procedure
- Choose Data Protection > Protection Entities > File Systems > Snapshots.
- Select the vStore to which the desired file system belongs from the vStore drop-down list in the upper left corner.
- Click Create.
The Create Snapshot page is displayed on the right.
Alternatively, perform any of the following operations to go to the Create Snapshot page:
- Choose Services > File Service > File Systems.
- Select the desired file system and choose Protect > Create Snapshot.
- Click More on the right of the desired file system and select Create Snapshot.
- Click the name of the desired file system. On the page that is displayed, click the Protection tab, select Snapshot from the drop-down list, and then click Create.
- Choose Data Protection > Protection Entities > File Systems > File Systems.
- Select the desired file system and click Create Snapshot.
- Click More on the right of the desired file system and select Create Snapshot.
- Click the name of the desired file system. On the page that is displayed, click the Protection tab, select Snapshot from the drop-down list, and then click Create.
- Click the name of the desired file system. In the upper right corner of the page that is displayed, click Create Snapshot from the Operation drop-down list.
- Click the value in the Snapshots column of the desired file system if the value is not 0. On the Protection tab page, select Snapshot from the drop-down list. Click Create.
- Choose Services > File Service > File Systems.
- Select the file system for which you want to create a snapshot.
- Set the snapshot name.
- The name must be unique.
- The name contains only letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
- The name contains 1 to 255 characters.
- Set the snapshot description.
The value contains 0 to 1023 characters.
- Click OK.
