Bringing a Fit AP Online on the WAC
Context
In the non-virtualized network solution for large- and medium-sized campus networks, if the wireless network uses the WAC+Fit AP architecture, the process for an AP to go online is as follows:
- (Configuration delivered by iMaster NCE-Campus) Configure a DHCP interface address pool on the WAC. The AP automatically obtains a management IP address using DHCP, establishing a management channel between the WAC and AP.
- (Configuration delivered by iMaster NCE-Campus) Associate the AP with the WAC to ensure that the AP is authorized to go online.
- (Configuration on the WAC web system) Configure the CAPWAP source interface. After the source interface is configured, if an AP attempts to access the network, the WAC checks the ESN of the AP to determine whether the AP is authorized. If the AP is authorized, a CAPWAP tunnel can be established between the WAC and the AP, and the AP can go online successfully.
Procedure
- (Configuration delivered by iMaster NCE-Campus) Configure a DHCP interface address pool on the WAC, and enable Option 43 to carry the WAC address. Assume that the native WAC is used and it functions as the gateway of the wired management subnet. If the broadcast storm in the management VLAN is controllable, the wired and wireless devices can share the management address pool and no dedicated wireless management subnet needs to be configured. In other cases, a dedicated wireless management subnet needs to be configured. For details about how to configure a wireless management subnet, see the process for configuring a wired management subnet in Configuring Aggregation and Access Switches to Be Managed by the Controller.
- (Configuration delivered by iMaster NCE-Campus) Associate the WAC with the AP. Choose Provision > Physical Network > Site Configuration and click the Site Configuration tab.
- For the native WAC, select Manage Fit AP from the switch drop-down list box in the upper left corner. In the WAC list, select the row where the native WAC resides, and click Add in the lower right corner. The Fit AP can then be managed by the native WAC.
- For a standalone WAC, select Fit AP from the WAC(Fit AP) drop-down list box in the upper left corner. In the WAC list, select the row where the standalone WAC resides, and click Add in the lower right corner. The Fit AP can then be managed by the standalone WAC.
When configuring an existing WAC to manage the Fit APs in use, the original configurations on the Fit APs will be lost. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
- For the native WAC, select Manage Fit AP from the switch drop-down list box in the upper left corner. In the WAC list, select the row where the native WAC resides, and click Add in the lower right corner. The Fit AP can then be managed by the native WAC.
- (Configuration on the WAC web system) Configure the CAPWAP source interface.
- Choose Device Management tab page, click the device to which you want to log in.
- Enter the management account and password, and click GO to access the device's web system.
- Choose Configuration > Wireless Services > AC Config. The AC Configuration tab page is displayed. Click
under AC source address, select Vlanif4080 (assume that the management address pool is configured on VLANIF 4080), and click OK. After the AC source address is selected, click Apply. After the AC source address is configured, the AP will go online successfully on the WAC.
- Choose Device Management tab page, click the device to which you want to log in.
