Installing the Device and Guide Rails
Installing the Device with L-Shaped Guide Rails
L-shaped guide rails apply only to Huawei cabinets.
The devices are stackable when L-shaped guide rails are used.
- Put on an ESD wrist strap. For details, see ESD Protection.
- Install the floating nuts.
- Determine the installation positions according to the cabinet device installation plan.
Floating nuts are used to tighten screws.
The boundary between Us is used as the reference for calculating device installation space. See Figure 5-3.
- Fasten the lower end of a floating nut to the target square hole in a mounting bar at the front of the cabinet.
- Use a floating nut hook to pull the upper end of the floating nut, and fasten it to the upper edge of the square hole. See Figure 5-4.
- Install a floating nut to the other front mounting bar in the same way.
- Determine the installation positions according to the cabinet device installation plan.
- Install the L-shaped guide rails.
- Position a guide rail horizontally in contact with the mounting bars in the cabinet.
- Tighten the screws on the guide rail in clockwise direction. See Figure 5-5.
- Install the other guide rail in the same way.
- Install the device.
- At least four persons are required to lift the device horizontally from both sides.
- Place the device on the guide rails and slide it into the cabinet. See (1) in Figure 5-6. Assign one person to protect the pipe at the rear of the cabinet to avoid scratching the pipe.
- Align the mounting ears of the device with the chassis mounting bars, and tighten the captive screws on the mounting ears in clockwise direction. See step (2) in Figure 5-6.
- Connect power cables to the device and power on the device. Connect a network cable, a VGA cable, or USB devices as required.
Installing the Device with Adjustable Guide Rails
Adjustable guide rails are for a cabinet with a depth of 543.5 mm to 848.5 mm (21.40 in. to 33.41 in.) between the front and rear mounting bars. See Figure 5-7.
The devices are stackable onto adjustable guide rails.
- Put on an ESD wrist strap. For details, see ESD Protection.
- Install the adjustable guide rails.
- Use a screwdriver to fasten one dowel pin on the front and two dowel pins on the rear of the guide rail. Figure 5-8 shows the positions of dowel pins.
Three types of dowel pins are shipped with the guide rails, and their diameters are 6.8 mm (0.27 in.), 8.7 mm (0.34 in.), and 9.2 mm (0.36 in.). Choose dowel pins with the largest diameter that can pass through the holes.
- Place a guide rail horizontally in the planned position and stretch the guide rail and align the holes on the guide rail with the holes on the inner guide rail of the rack. Lead the front and rear dowel pins out of the holes to pre-position the guide rail. See (1) in Figure 5-9.
Guide rails are divided into left and right guide rails (labeled with L and R). A pair of guide rails should be installed together and cannot be installed reversely.
- Use a screwdriver to tighten two screws on the front and two screws on the rear of the guide rail. See (2) in Figure 5-9. The figure shows the positions of screws.
- Install the other guide rail in the same way.
- Use a screwdriver to fasten one dowel pin on the front and two dowel pins on the rear of the guide rail. Figure 5-8 shows the positions of dowel pins.
- Install the device.
- At least four persons are required to lift the device horizontally from both sides.
- Place the device on the guide rails and slide it into the cabinet. See (1) in Figure 5-10.
- When the two mounting ears of the device come into contact with the mounting bars on the cabinet, tighten their captive screws to secure the device. See (2) in Figure 5-10.
- Connect power cables to the device and power on the device. Connect a network cable, a VGA cable, or USB devices as required.
Installing the Device with Holding Rails
The holding rails are for a cabinet with a distance of 610 mm to 914 mm (24.02 in. to 35.98 in.) between the front and rear mounting bars.
When installed on holding rails, the devices cannot be stacked on each other in a cabinet with a depth of 1 m (3.28 ft.).
If holding rails are used and the cable management arm (CMA) is equipped, the device cannot be installed in a cabinet with a depth of 1 m (3.28 ft.).
- Put on an ESD wrist strap. For details, see ESD Protection.
- Install the holding rails.
- Hold down the ejector release button on the front end of a holding rail and pull out the hook. See (1) and (2) in Figure 5-11.
- Insert the positioning pins on the rear of the rail into the square holes in the cabinet. See (3) in Figure 5-11.
- Align the front with a square hole, and push the holding rail forward until it snaps into place. See (4) in Figure 5-11.
- Push the hook backwards so that its metal sheet touches the mounting bar. See (5) in Figure 5-11.
- Install the other holding rail in the same way.
- Install the device.
- Pull out an inner rail from a holding rail until the inner rail cannot move, push the release button upward, and remove the inner rail from the holding rail. See (1) and (2) in Figure 5-12.
- Align the screws on the device with the notches in the inner guide rails, push the device forward until you hear a sound, and ensure that the latches eject and completely block the screws to fix the device to the inner guide rails. See Figure 5-13.
- Lift the device, align the inner rails with the holding rails, and push the device into the rack. See Figure 5-14. Note that four people are required to lift the device.
- Ensure that the inner rail is clipped into the middle rail, and then slowly push the chassis inside until you hear a click, as shown in (1) in Figure 5-15.
- If the inner rail is not clipped into the middle rail, the rolling balls and the holding rail may be damaged as shown in (2) and (3) in Figure 5-15.
- Press the release buttons on both sides, and push the device into the cabinet until the device cannot move forward. See Figure 5-16.
- Tighten the captive screws on the mounting ears to secure the device. See Figure 5-17.
- Connect power cables to the device and power on the device. Connect a network cable, a VGA cable, or USB devices as required.
