Heat Sink
Removing a Heat Sink
- Wear an ESD wrist strap. For details, see ESD Protection.
- Power off the device. For details, see Powering Off the Server.
- Remove the power cables and all signal cables.
- Remove the device. For details, see Removing the Device and Guide Rails.
- Drain the liquid working medium from the heat sink.
- Remove the chassis cover. For details, see Chassis Cover.
- Remove the air duct and support beam. For details, see Air Duct and Support Beam.
- (Optional) If an FHFL PCIe card is configured, remove the riser modules. For details, see Riser Modules.
- Remove all cables connected to the mainboard. For details, see Internal Cabling.
- Remove the liquid leakage detection board from the heat sink. For details, see Mainboard Cables.
- Loosen the screws on the heat sink using a Phillips screwdriver and pull out a heat sink. See (1) and (2) in Figure 5-42.
To prevent one side of the heat sink from tilting and damaging the CPU, perform the following steps to loosen the screws on the heat sink:
- When removing screws, remove the two screws on one diagonal and keep the other diagonal unchanged.
- When removing the two screws on the other diagonal, loosen the two screws and then remove them.
- Lift the water pipe out of the fastener. See (3) in Figure 5-42.
Installing a Heat Sink
- Align a heat sink with the connector, install the heat sink on the mainboard, and tighten the screws on the heat sink using a Phillips screwdriver. See (1) and (2) in Figure 5-43.
To prevent one side of the heat sink from tilting and damaging the CPU, perform the following steps to tighten the screws on the heat sink:
- When tightening screws, tighten the two screws on one diagonal and keep the other diagonal unchanged.
- When tightening the two screws on the other diagonal, fix the two screws and then tighten them.
- Clamp the water pipe to the hook. See (3) in Figure 5-43.
- Connect cables to the mainboard. For details, see Internal Cabling.
- (Optional) If you want to install and configure an FHFL PCIe card, install the riser modules first. For details, see Riser Modules.
- Install the air duct and support beam. For details, see Air Duct and Support Beam.
- Install the chassis cover. For details, see Chassis Cover.
- Install the device. For details, see Installing the Device and Guide Rails.
- Connect the power cables and all signal cables.
- Power on the device. For details, see Powering On the Server.
