Enabling and Configuring IPv6 on Windows
This section uses Windows 10 as an example to describe how to enable the IPv6 function and configure an IPv6 address.
Enabling IPv6
- Open Network and Sharing Center, choose Ethernet > Properties, and ensure that the IPv6 protocol is selected.
- On the cmd, run the services.msc command and set parameters of IP Helper: set Status to Running and Startup Type to Automatic.Figure 1-16 IP Helper
- On the cmd, run the regedit command and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters. Set DisabledComponents to 0.Figure 1-17 DisabledComponents
- Restart the PC.
- On the cmd, run the ipconfig command to check whether an IPv6 address exists in the local connection. If the IPv6 address exists, the IPv6 function is successfully enabled.
Configuring an IPv6 address
Open Network and Sharing Center, choose Ethernet > Properties > Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) > Properties to configure the IPv6 address. If the PC communicates with the servers properly, the IPv6 function is configured successfully.
If the IP address configuration still fails and an error message is displayed indicating that the connection fails after the IPv6 function is enabled, disable the irrelevant network and configure it again.
