RTU Licenses for S5700
What is RTU License?
Right to Use (RTU) is an authorization mode for selling hardware capabilities, such as the number of flows, capacity, and ports. An RTU license cannot be migrated after being bound to a device. RTU is a part of hardware value, and its life cycle is the same as that of the corresponding hardware.
Table 1-1 lists the licenses supported by S series switches. An RTU license is a type of resource license.
License Type |
Description |
---|---|
Functional license |
A functional license controls the use of a specific function on a device. If a user wants to use a restricted function, the user must be authorized to use the function. For example, if you want to use the distributed Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) gateway and BGP Ethernet VPN (EVPN) functions, you need to purchase the VXLAN enhanced function authorization license. |
Resource license |
Resource licenses control the number of resource items available to users. If a user wants to use a resource item, the user must be authorized to use the resource item. Based on actual service requirements, you can use default resources supported by the product without purchasing resource licenses, or purchase one or more resource licenses. The resource quantity is the sum of all resources in all selected resource licenses. Based on the resource type, resource licenses are classified into software and hardware resource licenses.

How to Use the RTU License for Increasing the Rate of a Group of Interfaces?
Fixed Mappings Between Groups and Interfaces
<HUAWEI> display device group-speed configuration ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Slot Group Interfaces BaseSpeed ConfigSpeed CurrentSpeed NextSpeed ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0 0 MultiGE0/0/1 ~ 0/0/12 2.5G 10G 10G 10G 1 MultiGE0/0/13 ~ 0/0/24 2.5G - 2.5G 2.5G
How to Make the Increased Interface Rate Take Effect
After the license is loaded, run the assign group-speed [ slot slotnumber ] group group-number speed command and restart the device. For example, to increase the rate of 12 interfaces in group 1 to 5 Gbit/s, run the following commands:
<HUAWEI> system-view [HUAWEI] assign group-speed group 1 5000 //After this command is run, restart the device to make the increased interface rate take effect.
Guidelines to Follow When the Command Configuration Is Inconsistent with the License Control Item
Guidelines |
Example |
---|---|
If the interface rate configured in the command is less than that supported by a license control item, the interface rate configured in the command takes effect. |
For example: The assign group-speed group 1 5000 command increases the rate of 12 interfaces in group 1 from 2.5 Gbit/s to 5 Gbit/s. The control item in the license file is to increase the rate of 2.5GE interfaces to 10 Gbit/s. After the license is activated and the device is restarted, the rate of 12 interfaces in group 1 is increased from 2.5 Gbit/s to 5 Gbit/s. |
If the interface rate configured in the command is greater than that supported by a license control item, the interface rate supported by the license control item takes effect. |
For example: The assign group-speed group 1 10000 command increases the rate of 12 interfaces in group 1 from 2.5 Gbit/s to 10 Gbit/s. The control item in the license file is to increase the rate of 2.5GE interfaces to 5 Gbit/s. After the license is activated and the device is restarted, the rate of 12 interfaces in group 1 is increased from 2.5 Gbit/s to 5 Gbit/s. |
If license control items are insufficient, the rate of interfaces in groups with smaller group IDs is increased. |
For example: The assign group-speed group 0 10000 and assign group-speed group 1 10000 commands increase the rate of 12 interfaces in groups 1 and 2 from 2.5 Gbit/s to 10 Gbit/s, and there is only license control item for increasing the rate of 2.5GE interfaces to 10 Gbit/s. After the license is activated and the device is restarted, only the rate of 12 interfaces in group 1 can be increased from 2.5 Gbit/s to 10 Gbit/s. |
Increasing the Interface Rate Using Multiple Licenses
The rate of a group of interfaces can be increased using multiple licenses.
For example, you have purchased a license for increasing the rate of 2.5GE interfaces to 5 Gbit/s and have increased the interface rate to 5 Gbit/s. Due to service expansion, the interface rate needs to be increased to 10 Gbit/s. In this case, purchase a license for increasing the rate of 5GE interfaces to 10 Gbit/s.
For another example, you have purchased a license for increasing the rate of 2.5GE interfaces to 5 Gbit/s and a license for increasing the rate of 5GE interfaces to 10 Gbit/s. Due to service development, the rate of 2.5GE interfaces needs to be increased to 10 Gbit/s. In this case, you can use the two purchased licenses to increase the interface rate to 10 Gbit/s, removing the need to purchase the license for increasing the rate of 2.5GE interfaces to 10 Gbit/s.
Multiple Interfaces Sharing the Same License
A license can be used by multiple interfaces.
For example, you have purchased a license for increasing the rate of 2.5GE interfaces to 10 Gbit/s. Due to service development, the rate of 12 interfaces in one group needs to be increased from 2.5 Gbit/s to 5 Gbit/s and the rate of 12 interfaces in the other group needs to be increased from 5 Gbit/s to 10 Gbit/s without changing the networking. In this case, you can use the purchased license without having to purchase another two licenses.
Processing RTU Licenses in a Stack
Similar to other licenses, the licenses of a stack are determined by the licenses of the stack master switch. For details, see "How Do I Install a License for a Stack of S Series Switches?"
How Do I Activate RTU License to Increase the Interface Rate
Prerequisites
You have obtained the .dat license file. For details about how to obtain a .dat license file, see "Obtaining Licenses" in the S1720, S5700, and S6700 Series Switches License Usage Guide.
Operation
- Upload the .dat license file to the device. For details, see "Example for Configuring the FTP Server".
- Load the license file on the device.
Run the license active file-name command to activate the license file.
<HUAWEI> license active license-test.dat Info: The license is being activated. Please wait for a moment. Info: Succeeded in activating the license file on the master board.
- Run the following command to set the interface rate. The following example increases the rate of 40GE interfaces to 100 Gbit/s.
<HUAWEI> system-view [HUAWEI] assign port-type 100ge all Warning: The configuration of 40G interfaces may be lost after the device restart. Therefore, back up their configuration before the restart, and check the configuration after the restart is complete. Continue? [Y/N]:y Info: The current configuration has been modified and takes effect after the device is restarted. [HUAWEI] quit
- Check the interface rate before restarting the device.
For example, before the license is loaded, the rate of the first six uplink interfaces on the S5732-H24S6Q is 40 Gbit/s, and the interface names displayed in the display interface brief command output are 40GE.
<HUAWEI> display interface brief ...... 40GE0/0/1 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 40GE0/0/2 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 40GE0/0/3 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 40GE0/0/4 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 40GE0/0/5 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 40GE0/0/6 *down down 0% 0% 0 0
- Run the reboot command to restart the device.
<HUAWEI> reboot Info: The system is now comparing the configuration, please wait.......... Warning: The configuration has been modified, and it will be saved to the next startup saved-configuration file flash:/vrpcfg.zip. Continue? [Y/N]:y Now saving the current configuration to the slot 0.. Save the configuration successfully. Info: If want to reboot with saving diagnostic information, input 'N' and then execute 'reboot save diagnostic-information'. System will reboot! Continue?[Y/N]:y
- After the device is restarted, run the display device port-type configuration or display device group-speed configuration command to check whether the configuration takes effect and run the display interface brief command to determine whether the interface rate takes effect based on the displayed interface name. For example, the display interface brief command output shows that the interface names of the first six uplink interfaces on the S5732-H24S6Q are 100GE, indicating that the configuration has taken effect.
<HUAWEI> display interface brief ...... 100GE0/0/1 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 100GE0/0/2 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 100GE0/0/3 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 100GE0/0/4 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 100GE0/0/5 *down down 0% 0% 0 0 100GE0/0/6 *down down 0% 0% 0 0
For example, run the display device port-type configuration command to check whether the configuration takes effect.
<HUAWEI> display device port-type configuration ----------------------------------- SlotId Current Next ----------------------------------- 0 100GE 100GE -----------------------------------
