Login Modes
When a stack functions as a single device to communicate with other network devices, it has a unique IP address and MAC address.
After a stack is set up, all stack members are virtualized into a logical device (the stack) on the network. Resources of all stack members are managed by the master switch. You can log in to the stack from any stack member to manage and maintain the stack. When you log in to a stack, you actually log in to the master switch, regardless of what login method you use and which stack member you have logged in to.
Two methods are available to log in to the stack:
Local login: Log in to the stack through the console port of any stack member.
Remote login: Log in to the stack through the management interface or another Layer 3 interface of any stack member using remote login protocols, such as Telnet and STelnet.
After a stack is set up, the configuration file of the master switch takes effect. Therefore, you need to use the IP address of the master switch when logging in to the stack remotely.
In a stack, the management interfaces of all stack members use the same IP address, namely, the IP address of the management interface of the master switch. When the management interfaces of multiple stack members are connected to the management network, only the management interface of one stack member takes effect. By default, the management interface of the master switch takes effect. If the management interface of the master switch is abnormal or unavailable, the management interface of another stack member takes effect.
File System Access
- On a standalone switch:
flash: specifies the root directory of the flash storage on the master MPU.
slave#flash: specifies the root directory of the flash storage on the standby MPU.
- In a stack:
flash: specifies the root directory of the flash storage on the stack master MPU.
stack member ID/slot ID#flash: specifies the root directory of the flash storage on the stack standby MPU or candidate standby MPU. For example, 1/6#flash indicates the root directory of the flash storage on the MPU in slot 6 of the switch with stack member ID 1.
