Transporting the Equipment
Transportation Precautions
Transportation precautions include but are not limited to:
- Improper transportation may damage equipment. Contact the manufacturer for precautions before attempting transportation.
- The logistics company engaged to transport the equipment must comply with international standards for transporting electronics. Ensure that the equipment being transported is always kept upright. Take necessary precautions to prevent collisions, corrosion, package damage, damp conditions, and contamination.
- This device cannot be hoisted. Use a forklift or flatbed to move it.
- Hire a certified logistics company.
- Transport the equipment in its original packaging.
- Package heavy, bulky items (such as chassis and blades) and fragile parts (such as PCIe GPUs and SSDs and optical modules) separately.
- Power off all equipment before transportation. Do not transport any hazardous materials along the equipment.
- Before transporting a cabinet, remove BBUs to ensure that the cabinet is not powered on.
Unloading the Equipment
Unload the equipment based on the vehicle type after the equipment is transported to the site.
Vehicle Type |
Recommended Unloading Method |
Reference |
---|---|---|
Vehicle with a tailboard |
Use a forklift and the tailboard to unload the equipment. |
See Manual Forklift. |
Vehicle without a tailboard |
Use a forklift to unload the equipment. |
See Forklift. |
Tools
Ensure that the tools are available before the equipment is unloaded:
- Rope
- (Optional) Forklift
- (Optional) Pallet truck
- Protective gloves
Manual Forklift
Figure 8-2 shows how to use a forklift and the tailboard to unload the equipment.
Precautions
- Fully lower the forks, insert them into the middle gap of the package tray, and then raise them slowly.
- Drive a forklift at an even speed. Do not stop it suddenly.
Forklift
Figure 8-3 shows how to use a forklift to unload the equipment.
Precautions
- The driver must be certified by the local government or authority.
- Ensure that no person stands in front of the forklift before driving it.Figure 8-4 Avoiding standing in front of the forklift
- Adjust the forks so that they are in the middle of the lower surface of the pallet to avoid damaging the device.Figure 8-5 Avoid damaging the device
- Lower and raise forks slowly and stop them gently.
Moving the Equipment
After the equipment is unloaded from the transportation vehicle, move the equipment to the equipment room.

To reduce the risk of personal injury, observe local regulations with regard to the maximum weight one person is permitted to carry.
Tools
- (Optional) Forklift
- (Optional) Manual forklift
- (Optional) Flatbed dolly
- Protective gloves
Manual Forklift
Figure 8-6, Figure 8-7, and Figure 8-8 show how to transport equipment by using a manual forklift.
Precautions
- Ensure that the passage is clear and unblocked, and is wide and high enough for the equipment to pass.
- At least three persons are required to move the equipment. One person directs the forklift, and the others hold the equipment. See Figure 8-6 and Figure 8-8.
- Fully lower the forks, insert them into the middle gap of the package tray, and then raise them slowly.
- Move a forklift at an even speed. Do not stop it suddenly.
- Before making a turn, slow down the forklift and move it along the outer side of the center line of the passage (to increase the radius of the turn).Figure 8-9 Route for transporting equipment at a turning
- Transport the equipment along a straight line. Ensure that the angle between the arm and the moving direction is greater than or equal to 120°.
- Keep the equipment unswayed during transportation. If the wheels are stuck by cable ties or bolts, clear the barriers before driving.
- Slowly move the equipment into and out of an attended elevatorFigure 8-10 Moving the equipment into and out of an attended elevator
Forklift
Figure 8-11 shows how use a forklift to move the equipment.
Precautions
- Ensure that the passage is clear and unblocked, and wide and high enough for the forklift and equipment to pass.
- Ensure that no person stands in front of the forklift before driving it.Figure 8-12 Avoiding standing in front of the forklift
- Adjust the forks of the forklift so that they are in the middle of the lower surface of the pallet to avoid damaging the equipment.Figure 8-13 Avoid damaging the equipment
- Lower and raise the forks slowly and at an even speed.
- Securely fasten the equipment with the rope before moving it. See Figure 8-11.
- Before making a turn, slow down the forklift and drive along the outer side of the center line of the passage (to increase the radius of the turn).Figure 8-14 Route for transporting equipment at a turning
- Keep the equipment unswayed during transportation. If the wheels are stuck by cable ties or bolts, clear the barriers before driving.
Flatbed Dolly
Figure 8-15 and Figure 8-16 show how to move equipment using a flatbed dolly.
Precautions
- Ensure that the passage is clear and unblocked, and is wide and high enough for the equipment to pass.
- At least two persons are required to move the equipment. See Figure 8-15 and Figure 8-16.
- Before making a turn, slow down the flatbed dolly and move along the outer side of the center line of the passage (to increase the radius of the turn).Figure 8-17 Route for transporting equipment at a turning
- Keep the equipment unswayed during transportation. If the wheels are stuck by cable ties or bolts, clear the barriers before driving.
- When moving the equipment into or out of an elevator, move the equipment slowly and ask one person to control the elevator to prevent the elevator door from closing at the wrong time.Figure 8-18 Moving the equipment into and out of an attended elevator
Manual Handling
To reduce the risk of personal injury, comply with local regulations with regard to the maximum weight one person is permitted to carry.
Figure 8-19 and Figure 8-20 show how to move the equipment.
Precautions
- Wear clean, protective gloves, clothing, hat, and shoes.Figure 8-21 Protective clothing
- Observe the following when moving the equipment:
- Do not carry the weight that is over the maximum load per person stipulated by local laws or regulations.
- Check the maximum device weight and arrange required personnel.
- If an accident occurs during the transportation, protect yourself first and then the equipment.
