When we connected Dell? PC (Pentium III 1Ghz) with T2000 NMS (for Windows 2000 Professional) installed to one OptiX equipment we could not access the NE. We tried making a new cross cable but it did not work either. We ran PING command from the PC to OptiX IP address and there were too many packet losses. When we connected one of our laptops to OptiX there was no problem. Connecting Dell? PC to one of our laptops there was no problem.
We searched for the latest version (5.8) on the Internet (http://www.3com.com) and installed it in the PC. After we upgraded the Ethernet controller version, the communication between the PC and OptiX equipment became normal.
After this tests were done we assumed that there was a problem with Ethernet board of Dell? PC (3COM ?3C905C-Tx Compatible), we checked the software version of the Ethernet controller which was 5.0.2.
If there are any communication problem between OptiX equipment and PC running NMS software upgrade Ethernet controller version (Specially with Dell computers).
