NES NM failed to store timeslot configuration file caused by Invalid characters.

Publication Date:  2012-07-24 Views:  108 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

A specific oversea exchange has more than 80 155/622H sites in the whole network with NES NM whose version is 4208E. The NEs?configuration and alarm are managed properly by the NM system which is connected to each gateway via router. In NES NM? service Window, when the user clicks the Save to files icon and Read from files icon to save the timeslot configuration as .slt file or import saved .slt file, the icons do not respond.

Handling Process

Huawei also thinks it strange, and asks to return the NM base for check. It is found that the user employs the special symbol: to name each NE. However, the NM doesn? accept some special symbols like "/><:?\ by default, they are considered invalid by NM. Delete symbol: from NE name in NM, then the NE can save timeslot configuration file properly.

Root Cause

The transmission NM doesn? support the special symbols "/><:?\ used in NE name by default. The NM considers these symbols invalid and then doesn? execute commands. However, the cause for the error is not clear because the defective NM doesn? give any prompt. Furthermore, the error correction mechanism is not perfect for the host software and NM system. When the NE name is illegal, the host or NM should give a prompt to help with correction.
