Old version of VRP caused failure in capturing traffic statistics from VPN Manager

Publication Date:  2019-07-11 Views:  94 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

VPN Manager was not able to discover any traffic statistics for VPNs which were binded to vlan-interface; On the other hand it was able to discover traffic statistics for VPN’s binded to sub-interface.
This problem was discovered while configuring VPN Manager (NSM 2.20 VPN-0609SP07 installed on windows2000 server) to monitor vlan-interface traffic statistics on NE40E (VRP5.30-31002M03).

Alarm Information

No Alarms found.
However, History data, Realtime Incoming and Outgoing traffics for Vlan interafces all were showing zeros.

Handling Process

To Upgrade the VRP version of NE40E to VRP5.30-31002W or higher.

Root Cause

The device NE40E was not capturing any traffic on vlan-interface it self:
display interface vlanif 223
Vlanif223 current state : UP
Line protocol current state : UP
The Maximum Transmit Unit is 1500 bytes
Internet Address is
IP Sending Frames' Format is PKTFMT_ETHNT_2, Hardware address is xxxx-xxxx-109c
Physical is VLANIF
    Last 5 minutes input rate 0 bytes/sec, 57 packets/sec
    Last 5 minutes output rate 0 bytes/sec, 0 packets/sec
    876 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 drops
    0 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 drops
The input rate and output rate both of them shows 0 bytes/sec

The new release VRP5.30-31002W for NE40E and its following Versions have already provided this feature of supporting statistics on vlan interface.
Also we need to apply the command “enable statistics vlan-interface".
