What is the function of traffic suppress configuration and what is impact of configuring the traffic suppress as OFF for all the traffic types in the SCUL board or GIU boards (in terms of CPU, memory, service affecting)?
There are 3 kinds of traffic suppress, like SCU, GIU and ETH. And they are playing similar role.
Using this traffic suppress function, we can control the Multicast, broadcast and unicast traffic. If traffic suppress switches are OFF, It may cause our DSLAM's burden aggravation as to affect our normal service .
By default, the level of broadcast traffic suppression and unicast traffic
Suppression is 7. And It is recommended to set broadcast traffic suppression according to network condition. Unicast traffic suppression can be set only in GIU mode and eth mode. When IGMP proxy or IGMP snooping is enabled, multicast packets are not suppressed. When IGMP proxy or IGMP snooping is disabled, multicast packets are suppressed. By default, the level of multicast traffic suppression is 7.
The traffic suppression of the ports on the ETHA board is also affected by the board traffic suppression. The actual value is the minimum of the board traffic suppression values.
We need pay attention to this command ,because it can affect service .
The traffic-suppress command is used to set the traffic suppression level of broadcast, unknown multicast and unknown unicast traffic. When we need to modify the traffic suppression level of broadcast, unknown multicast and unknown unicast, then run this command. After that, if the traffic control of an Ethernet port is enable, the traffic of the port is limited based on the traffic suppression level.
