Issue Description

In a certain site, a third-party network management tool, net-SNMP, can be used to read the interface name in ifName mode and read the interface description in ifAlias mode.
When the snmpbulkwalk cry3-rpr4-pe1 ifName command is used to batch read all the interface names of the NE40 VRP3.10_2320. The operation is normal. However, when the snmpbulkwalk cry3-rpr4-pe1 ifAlias command is used, interface description following a certain interface is lost.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

Change the interface description with less than 64 characters on the NE40.

Root Cause

1. As defined in RFC MIB, ifAlias supports only 64 characters, but Huawei devices support 80 characters for the interface description.
. If the character string about the interface description is between 64 characters and 80 characters, the description can be all displayed on Huawei devices but is considered as incorrect data after delivered to the network management device.
3. When the network management tool walks, it stops if when it finds that the description of an interface is too long. As a result, the interface description following that interface is all lost.

To read the interface description with network management software, the interface description must be within 64 characters. If no network management software is used, the interface description can be up to 80 characters.
