Customer reported that HARD_BAD on GSCC is not clearing even after replacement of GSCC.
The list of alarms present at node were:
TA_LOS & DN_E1AIS on 13 PQ1
R_LOS on ssq1sl1(No fiber connected)
COMMUN_FAIL on 9-EOW
HARD_BAD on 83-GSCC
The EOW card was given soft and hard reset but the board communication did not resume. In my case the EOW card interface was faulty and by replacing the EOW board, the COMMUN_FAIL alarm on EOW and hard_bad alarm on GSCC were cleared.
By following the GOLDEN RULE of HARD_BAD alarm parameters “When the later four parameters are 0xff, then the first parameter shows the slot which is having some problem.” The alarm parameters were (0x09 0xff 0xff 0xff 0xff).And thus it was found that there is some problem with 9-EOW and not GSCC.
Upon investigation it was found that the site has an issue that its order wire is not working as well. The alarm that appeared on 9-EOW order wire is COMMUN_FAIL with parameters 0x01 0x00 0x03 0xff 0xff.
The para1 & para2 are meaning less and the remaining parameter shows that there is some Intra-Board Ethernet Communication failure. EOW is an order wire processing board, which is used to provide the order wire phone or transparent transmission interface for the system.
Now regarding EOW card problem, the possible causes are
1. The board is reset.
2. Board interface to backplane is faulty.
3. The backplane interface to board is faulty.
4. The board may have some other software or hardware discrepancies.
