Backup Failure of the Sybase Database Because of Failure in Connection to the SYB_BACKUP

Publication Date:  2012-07-25 Views:  176 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

The databases fail to be backed up on the Sybase. The fault message is displayed as follows:
Msg 7205, Level 17, State 2:
Server ’mav1_server0’, Line 1:
Can’t open a connection to site ’SYB_BACKUP’. See the error log file in the SQL
No other query entry found for the remote server SYB_BACKUP - site SYB_BACKUP.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

(1) Query the database backup process and find that the process is started normally.
(2) Query the interfaces file and the configuration of the port ID and find that they are normal. (3) Run the sp_helpserver or select * from sysservers command. The following message is displayed:
select * from sysservers
 srvid  srvstatus srvname
          srvnetname                       srvclass
  ------ --------- ------------------------------
         -------------------------------- --------
       0         8 N2000DBServer
          mav1_server0                            0
       1         8 SYB_BACKUP
          SYB_BACKUP                           NULL

In the preceding message, the srvnetname in the SYB_BACKUP server line is displayed as SYB_BACKUP, rather than N2000DBServer_back in the interfaces file.
Note: The srvname in the database table sysservers is the name of the server (for example, N2000DBServer is the server name and SYB_BACKUP is the name of the standby server). The srvnetname is the name of the interfaces file on the database server and must be the same as the name in the sybase/interfaces file.
(4) To change the srvnetname in the database table sysservers, run the following command:
1>sp_configure ’allow updates to system tables’,1
1>update sysservers set srvnetname = ’N2000DBServer_back’ where srvname = ’SYB_BACKUP’

Root Cause

The preceding fault message indicates the failure cause. That is, the requested SYB_BACKUP is not found during the backup.
