Issue Description

1. The software version of the AR28-80 was quite outdated. Therefore, the AR28-80 needed to be upgraded. However, after the upgrade, the system could not be rebooted.
The reboot fault information is as follows:
The main application file is self-decompressing.
An error was encountered during image decompression.
The backup application file---flash:/backup.bin does not exist!
The secure application file--flash:/secure.bin does not exist!
System halt!
Operating software is wrong.
Please download the software again.
An error was encountered during image decompression.
2. At the beginning, the engineer guessed there was something wrong with the large packets of the new version. However, after retransmission of the large packets, the problem still existed.
3. After the large packets were replaced, the problem still existed.
4. The engineer cut off the power to the host and disassembled the chassis. Then he found two 128 MB memories, one of which was not the standard configuration designated by Huawei. After the engineer pulled this memory out, the AR28-80 could be rebooted.

Handling Process

After the incompatible memory was replaced with the memory designated by Huawei, the problem was solved.

Root Cause

The AR28-80 could not be restarted after upgrade because of the incompatible memory. It is recommended that you use the memory designated by Huawei. The memories bought from the market may not be compatible with the devices of Huawei. Because the memories of the device were OEM parts, the R&D personnel could not make further analysis.

Suggestions

The reboot failure of a device after upgrade may be caused by the software or the hardware. You can locate the cause through the process of elimination. Another recommendation is to use the memory designated by Huawei. The memories bought from the market may be incompatible with the devices of Huawei.
