In a layer II network, voice, ADSL service VLANs and management VLANs travel from UAs trough Datacom equipments to reach an A-Corp Metro Ethernet network. Because of the type of media (E1s), some UAs are connected to a NE20 routers which are connected to NE40 routers with VPLS configured (NE20 doesn’t drive VLANs configuration). The interfaces of NE20 routers connected to UAs are configure as sub-interfaces with the following command lines:

In some cases the connection between NE20 routers and UAs is with radio trough Ethernet interfaces with the same configuration as before. One interface is necessary to configure to manage the radio using VLAN 3. Why radio management is not working after the configuration is applied?
E-Corp radios management interface is a simple layer III interface when can be only configure IP address, network mask and gateway, they can not be configured as VLAN trunk interfaces. In NE20 subinterfaces is mandatory to configure the “vlan-type dot1q” command when is necessary to bind the VLAN with some VSI. However the “l2 binding” command can be apply in regular physical interfaces without any VLAN trunk configuration as following:

In the other peer, the NE40 router has the “l2 binding” command applied in each VLAN interface. For radio management the VLAN 3 is configured in the interface connected to the management device. Through this way E-Corp radio management can be applied in the network.
