Certain Tributary 2M ports Ports Are Unavailable After Upgrade Due to Version Features

Publication Date:  2012-07-25 Views:  115 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

The OptiX OSN 3500 in an office is upgraded from version to version and matched versions. After the upgrade, partial tributary services on the N1PQ1 board become unavailable, the port reports a DOWN_E1_AIS alarm, and the test fails. Before the upgrade, however, the port services are normal.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

1. Check the faulty port. It is found that the port is set to an unloaded port.
2. Delete the original services and recreate services. The fault persists.
3. Perform a warm reset on the faulty N1PQ1 board. The fault persists.
4. Perform a cold reset on the faulty N1PQ1 board. The fault is rectified.
5. Query relevant version features. It is found that the modes of processing DOWN_E1_AIS alarms are different between R3 and R7.

Root Cause

For the SSN1PQ1, SSN1PQM, SSN1PD1, SSR1PD1, or SSR1PL1 board, the register in V1R3 and earlier versions has different settings for inserting the DOWN_E1_AIS alarm from the register in V1R7 and later versions. The board software of V1R3 is used in V1R6. If the board inserts the DOWN_E1_AIS alarm before upgrade but is not reset or activated after upgrade, the previously inserted DOWN_E1_AIS alarm persists. In this manner, the software does not clear the DOWN_E1_AIS alarm after the conditions for inserting DOWN_E1_AIS alarms are cancelled. Thus, the services are unavailable.

Before an upgrade, you need to be aware of the software features of target version, to avoid inconveniencies in future maintenance.
