FAQ - How to use SSH tunneling with Xmanager GUI to Sun Solaris OS

Issue Description

What options to set when one wants to establish Xmanager GUI thruout SSH tunnel to Solaris OS?

This enables to avoid firewall if SSH protocol has been enabled on firewall, to be able to establish GUI remote connection to Sun Solaris OS.

Handling Process


1) On Xmanager (Xstart) choose session and click on Protocol field to choose: SSH

2) On Solaris OS find sshd_config file, copy it as sshd_config_old to have backup and then use vi to change sshd_config content into next:

# X11 tunneling options

X11Forwarding yes

X11DisplayOffset 10

X11UseLocalhost yes

save file (vi: wq!)

sshd_config path is:


3) Check if services for ssh on Solaris OS are running by using next two commands:

ps -ef | grep sshd

svcs -a |grep ssh


Root Cause

To establish remote desktop connection (GUI) to Sun Solaris OS one can use next tools:

1 ) Xmanager (Xstart) remote desktop connection tool (ver. 3)

2) Sun Solaris OS (ver. 10)
