3G service packet loss due to interconnection problem

Publication Date:  2012-07-25  |   Views:  143  |   Downloads:  0  |   Author:  Ahmed Mubarak  |   Document ID:  EKB0000553553

Issue Description

Many 3G sites have packet loss passing through RTN950, Ethernet cable connected back to back with RTN620.

Alarm Information

There is  IP-path packet loss at all the sites at M2000 which are passing through this link.

Handling Process

When we checked the auto-negotiation ability at the interconnection port at the RTN950, we found the followings:
1- It reads 100M half-Duplex on RTN950, and for the RTN620, it reads full duplex while port mode configured auto-negottiation for the both RTN620 and RTN950.
2- After we made it fixed from the two sides the alarms are cleared and there is no more packet loss.

Root Cause

The auto-negotiation configured for the two ports interconnected at both the RTN620 and RTN950,  but the actual port work mode may different.

All the interconnection port between the EMS at both of RTN950 and RTN650 must be set properly depending on the cable used and the sevice type.
