microwave link not visible due to different protocols at different ends

Publication Date:  2012-07-25 Views:  118 Downloads:  0
Issue Description

As seen from the picture above, we the total ring after one NE became unmanaged. The ring is of 910 IDUs. When we tried to check from site(Far) end, we could not see the NEs that were visible in NMS but we could see the NEs that were not visible in NMS.

Alarm Information
NE not Login.

Handling Process
We first changed the protocol of NE1(IF card looking towards NE2) to TCP/IP. Then immediately visibility came. then we changed the protocol of NE2 to HW ECC and at last changed the protocol of NE1 to HW ECC again.
The ring then became totally visible.

Root Cause

As we can see from the picture above, the problem identified was that two protocols were given at two ends of the two NEs i.e in between NE2 and NE1 we had microwave link. NE2 DCC was flowing on TCP/IP protocol whereas NE3 DCC was flowing on HW ECC protocol.Hence we could see GNE and NE1 in NMS(Green colour) but unable to see NE2 and NE3 in NMS(Red coulour). The service was running uninterruped as it has no relation with visibility.

We should be cautious while assigning protocol in between links. As we know HW ECC is a Huawei internal developed protocol that can communicate with other standard protocols, but it can work only when the two protocols are defined inside the same equipement. If two protocols are defined at two ends of two NEs having microwave link in between then it will not work as both cannot communicate.
