MSTP ring doesn't work due to the equipment of other provider using private protocol

Publication Date:  2012-07-25 Views:  111 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
T country T project, we use RTN950 v1R002C01SPC200 together with C provider's switch as a MSTP ring. But when we set C provider's switch as the root node, our RTN can't recognize it as root node, contrarily set RTN950 as root node, the switch also can't recognize. the topology is as below:

Alarm Information

Handling Process
1.We checked the link and it is OK.

2.We capture the MSTP protocol message from RTN950, and found we already sent out the protocol message but  didn't receive any protocol message from swtich side. For detail of the message log please check the attachment.

3.We checked the configuration from the switch side and found the protocol of the switch is r-pvst, which is the private protocol, our RTN can't recognize this kind of protocol, and just treat as normal message.

We asked them change the protocol to MSTP and the MSTP ring work well.

Root Cause
1.We thought maybe something wrong with the link between each other..

2.Maybe the protocol of MSTP is different btween our RTN and the third-part equipment.
Sometimes when we do the commisioning with other provider's equipment , we should also ask them to make sure their equipment has no problem.
