Unable to Change the IP Address of the BMC Network Port on the E6000 Due to Communication Failure

Issue Description

At a commercial deployment, the following symptom appears when users attempt to change the IP address of the BMC on the E6000.

Handling Process

Solution 1:
Log in to the blade server where the IP address of the BMC cannot be changed, and then execute the following command.
[root]# ipmitool mc reset cold
By doing this, the BMC can be restarted in the operating system, and the BMC network port is refreshed.
Solution 2:
Remove and insert the blade server where the IP address of the BMC cannot be changed to manually restart the BMC.

Root Cause

The baseboard management controller (BMC) of the E6000 cannot communicate with the management module (MM) through the network port. In this condition, the BMC needs to be restarted.


Given BMC communication failure occasionally occurs on earlier versions of the E6000, you are advised to restart the BMC during service interruption.
