Installation of the Storage Foundation for Windows Fails Because the System Service Is not Started

Publication Date:  2012-07-18 Views:  284 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
The user enters the name of the host that runs the Storage Foundation for Windows in Computer Selection during the installation, and choose Add. The "Cannot connect to the specified computer" message is displayed. When the host name is entered in Run Configuration Checker before the pre-installation check, the same error message is displayed.
Alarm Information
Handling Process
Restart the Server and Workstation services. Then reinstall the Storage Foundation for Windows. The host name of the node that run the software is successfully added.
Root Cause
The Symantec Web site does not provide relevant instructions. The host name and IP address of the host can be pinged through, while the pre-installation check of the host fails due to a connection problem. According to the error message, the problem may be relevant to the system network services. The check on the system services indicate that the start type of the Server and Workstation services is "auto," but the services are disabled.
Many uncommon problems can be resolved if you check whether the relevant system services are started.
